Askarov has already played two full seasons in the AHL, with pretty good stats. 3 NHL games in those two years. Assets wise, I would've had Askarov as the backup for this year, and see what he is made of. Is Saros expendable.

Then again, the prices for Markström and Ullmark this offseason were.... not great.

I fully understand Askarov being pissed that they are now basically throwing him to the AHL again. He hasn't even had a proper chance in the NHL, though he deserves it.

But Nashville can't justify asking top price for him, no matter how good he is. Goalie prices are not great, and he isn't established in the NHL. I somehow have a feeling that Askarov is going to f*** over back to the KHL before the season starts because Trotz can't swallow his pride and admit that his trade value isn't as big as he thinks it is. And Askarov is pissed because he hasn't got a proper chance with Nashville and will never get it now.
I’d say it is a stretch to say Askarov has earned a NHL job. He didn’t even have the net in the AHL playoffs. He undoubtedly has talent and upside, but the readiness is far from certain and he hasn’t knocked the door down yet. Maybe that happens next year, but it hasn’t happened yet.

I do think Lafreniere can still have his say on this narrative.
I don’t see it… Stutzle is already a franchise level center and had a 90 point season. Even if Lafs ends up a 1st line wing… that’s not close. He has to hit a Cheese level.

I just see the 70points and I’d expect more they have surrounded him with some talent.
It wasn’t his best but that was the story of the Sens year.

I think Stutzle ends up the clear best player from that draft. He already has a 90 point season under his belt.

If Lafreniere could ever figure out how to play in the regular season the way he does in the playoffs, he'd give Stutzle a real run for his money as a dominant, ~80 point two-way top line winger with physicality but I have my doubts about that ever happening. He'll probably end up a really good 2nd line wing who can excel come playoff time.

Byfield is the one who can give Stutzle a run for his money if everything clicks.

God love hyperbole.

Silly thing to say. Watch him this coming season. See what you think then.
Do statistics mean nothing to you? Or do you just look at the win column and think he must be great?

If Laf becomes an 80pt two way wing aka Stone/Landy he still wouldn't surpass Stutzle in a redraft. Stutzle's seemingly at worst locked in as a ~80pt 1C which is a far more valuable piece.

Stutzle has the potential to be a top 10 player in the league IMO. His skillset is elite. Already a 1C with alot more upside.

Ehhhh I don't know about that. 80 points is on the lower level of 1Cs nowadays and unless you're playing great defense, you aren't going to be as valuable IMO as a Stone/Landeskog-esque top line winger.

Odd question, has Tim stutzle been a disappointment
Stutzle is an elite player and he will be for years to come with the Sens . Let me put it this way , in my evaluation the Sens would have won the EK trade with San Jose with Stutzle alone , but on top of that they recieved Josh Norris ( and a bunch of spare parts ) .

That's a good fit for both parties. Florida badly needed another right shot and PP defensemen. Boqvist has some serious injury issues, but if healthy he can play bottom pairing and PP time.

Was gonna say, Florida is one of the few teams who’s makeup can support a bottom pairing PP specialist.

Yup... they have so many guys who can PK, they can actually afford this sort of specialist. The loss of Montour will certainly hurt their puck movement, but this may lessen the blow on the PP.

I said it earlier that they could go for a 2-for-1 bargain bin deal of Boqvist & Boqvist. Turns out Florida was going to do it.

Beauage signed with the Laval Rockets in the AHL. I suspect with Harris in charge, we're going to see Avs cut a lot of weight from the previous two head scouts.

I’d hope the Avs quit handing out contracts to players who have no real future. Beaucage should have never been signed.
I agree he was never good in hindsight, but I think you have to always give snipers the benefit of the doubt and sign them to an ELC. Goalscorers are always rare and if you can find a good one past the 2nd or 3rd round, you have to take that chance.

I was screaming about it prior. Dude simply couldn’t skate and never had a shot to be anything other than an ECHL scorer and that isn’t worth a NHL contract.

IMO the Avs have given way too many contracts on players that just have no future simply because they picked them.

Only player left I kind of want is Justin Schultz
He’s at least intriguing at this point. He sucks, but it seems he’s gotten comfortable with who he is and tailored his game that way. What I don’t like is that he can’t PK. Avs don’t have enough guys who can do that at a high enough level to give the top guys a break. A PTO would be ideal for him.
