GDT: NHL Draft Combine: June 4-10, Buffalo

Well, NHL will hold its draft combine while the Stanley Cup Finals are on. It's not televised or anything, but there's always a lot of reports, and interviews on it.

People can discuss anything related to it here.

It's an important event for teams to meet & greet players, conduct interviews, and see where players are in terms of their physical performance.

NHL has invited 106 prospects to the event, which is being held in Nashville (where the actual draft takes place) from Sunday, June 4 to Saturday, June 10.

Important Dates:

June 5-9: Team Interviews
June 7: Player Medicals
June 8-10: Fitness Tests

Players have to pass the medical before doing the fitness tests.

Curious how many of the 106 prospects get interviewed by Montreal. That's a lot of interviewing. But you have to think that they need to do their due diligence on all prospects. Even if it's just for data analytics or to build files on players that might become available in the future via waivers or trades.

I'm guessing all top 10 get the whole MTL team for a 30-45 minute slot. The rest of the top 60 get a small two person team for 20 minutes and the final 46 get one person for 15-20 minutes.

I think I read before that Montreal employs a Sports Psychologist who does a lot of interviewing. I wonder who they involve. Any articles on this that someone can share?

I'm guessing prospects might be off limits until the conclusion of the memorial cup or June 1st. Guessing that limitation gets lifted based on the NHL combine plus Montreal use to have their own combine and a European combine.

Yeah, they can zoom him. He's going to the draft and his agent said he'll arrive early enough so teams have a chance to personally interview him then.

No Russians were invited to combine. Same as last year.

Well, there's 32 teams with staff, etc & 106 players. That alone is given like 4 days.

The fitness tests are only 1-and-a-half days.

The main interest is knowing who management takes out to dinner. Lol

Only because Slafkovsky was already met with at the World's. You can't meet with everybody at this event.
