Just saw these results, Josi was f***ing robbed. Josi had more Hart votes than Makar, but one idiot left him off his Norris ballot entirely & many had him 3rd or 4th on theirs while Makar stole the award with less 1st place votes. Pretty f***ing lame. Why do we need 2nd place & 3rd place etc points...count the first place votes & there's your winner. I digress.
I said it at the end of the season when the finalists were announced that Makar would win it solely because of that OT winner where he did that spin-o-rama move in Chicago. The NHL wanted another new Canadian superstar to promote & they are pulling out all the stops.

He was also the best player by a mile on that Nashville team & basically carried them on his back into the playoffs. He should have been a Hart finalist as well. I would've voted for him as my pick for Hart. He simply had a monster season & was completely overlooked during & after the season.

Josi was BY FAR the top defenseman in the league this season. It wasn't even close. Josi had 10 points more than Makar. 10. That's a big gap for defenseman scoring.
Makar is the new darling of the NHL. This guy's shit won't stink for a decade.

I mean, Josi was deserving, but the two were .08 points per game apart, which comes out to 6.5 points over 82 games. Makar had 28 goals to Josi’s 23 and 20 5v5 to Josi’s 12. Makar had less PP points, 3x more game winning goals, Toews/Makar had hands down the best on ice goals for differential of any defenders in the league. Despite those 10 extra points, Josi’s goal differential was only 16. Makar’s was 48. I don’t know if a difference of 10 points in 3 less games, between players above point per game is enough on its own to say Makar won strictly because he’s a media darling. This fan base has a weird defense mechanism of not wanting to give other players their due even when they’re not rivals. We view Makar as a rival simply because he rivals Fox for the title of best young D in the league. The truth is, he probably has the edge. C’est la vie. There’s really no shame in having the second best young defenseman in the world. Makar is a goddam G.
I mean, he was 21 and “exposing himself” was supposedly his ass cheeks. If mooning someone at 21 makes you a sleaze ball for life I shudder to think what most people could be classified as.

He certainly still looks like one and being a pro hockey player puts you in the minority if you're not.
He can’t really help how he looks, and hockey players seem to be among the least sleazy among the major sports in the US. Matthews was crying when the AGM with ALS was getting a standing ovation. He doesn’t come across as obnoxious or egotistical either when speaking. I know he dresses annoyingly and associates with Beiber but he has never struck me as a really bad dude. He’s young, massively successful and even if he was immature and dumb at 21-23 he’s figuring shit out as a prominent public figure at a far younger age than I had my shit figured out. I’d honestly LIKE to hate on him, but I don’t really see a reason to.

The same Roman Josi won the Norris in 2020 with 65 points. John Carlson had 75 points that season. 10 more points.
