No real surprise that If you believe the speculations and rumors it looks like Marner is a Leaf, long term. Too bad. Would love for Hawks to grab him:
Toronto isn't Canada's capital though, right?Steve Dangle of SDPN predicting the superstar will re-sign to stay put in Canada’s capital.
This is gruesome

Lol no, and who the hell is Clear Cutz News??Toronto isn't Canada's capital though, right?
I know ..... but it sounds about right. Marner wants to stay in TO. He especially displayed his value when Mathews was sidelined.Lol no, and who the hell is Clear Cutz News??
I dont think its any secret that Marner wants to stay in Toronto, it has always been whether or not the feeling is mutual. If he underperforms in the playoffs again, the fans will turn on him again, and management might seek a different path.I know ..... but it sounds about right. Marner wants to stay in TO. Meh, Im not a huge fan of giving UFAs big money when you are in a rebuild. Tavares will re-sign on a much cheaper deal. You're hoping.
Tavares might be the odd guy out. At 34, he's a health nut and seems to have a lot left in the tank. Too old for this sorry ass team though.
Personally, I think the contract Leafs gifted Nylander was a big mistake. He is a streaky player who plays hard when he feels like it, and it looks to me like his lackadaisical approach has worsened since inking that deal.... but they're stuck with him at that price.I'm a fan of Steve Dangle, but he's not exactly 'plugged in' beyond his friendship and [technical] employer/employee relationship with Chris Johnston.
They had a bunch of 'end of the year specials', and one of them was where the three podcast hosts went around the table making big predictions based on.... nothing beyond gut feelings and reading the tea leaves, honestly. It made for a fun show, but nothing anybody should take a firm source.
Marner wants to stay in Toronto. The problem is, Marner feels he is every bit as good as Matthews and should be paid accordingly. Which I don't begrudge him, but the Leafs cannot pay two guys 13+ million dollars a year AAV and expect to ice a good team, no matter how optimistic the cap projections are.
So, I think it will come down to the Leafs giving Marner a number and him weighing how much he loves Toronto vs how much money/affirmation he wants.
