They can but second year of his deal probably kills any real interest even with lots of cap room
I think the Hawks have to add $22 mill to get to the floor next year, and absent Toews or Kane coming back it will be interesting to see how they do that. Mrazek is signed for next year so I don't see them having anyone on the roster now who will command a raise if the Hawks even want them back. Because of KK's cap hit it would be kinda like a small cap dump for the Pens, so the Hawks would probably ask for extra. It seems like it makes sense for both teams.

If we get a second then I’m in

Quite humourous to me that I can't praise one of the better responsible, two-way players in today's NHL without being attacked. It hits a nerve I guess.... but I'm not taking the bait.

Look, I was hard on Mitch after the MTL series. Him and Matthews. They once again did not show up.

But last season, they were great against TBL. As players that are still ridiculously young (I say ridiculously cause it feels like they've been around forever now), having improvement in the postseason is a positive. If they regress in the postseason again this year, then that's really concerning.

I'm not saying he's better than Kane or that they should be compared. Just pointing it out.

I watch pretty much every Leaf game because I hate their fans and like to laugh at them on threads here.
Marner is certainly a better defender than Kane but as overall hockey players it’s not even close.
Every once in a while during the Hawk run Kane would get the gift of say a Patrick Sharp or D-Cat as a line mate. He has also turned the corpse Anisimov into a 1st line C and made guys like Kris Versteeg rich with the deals they got based on how they produced with Kane.
AND THEN
Kane plays even better in the playoffs.

You’re praising Marner as better because he PK’s like Lou Angotti? Yet he often disappears when games get physical and that’s while playing with a pretty decent grinder and one of the best pure goal scorers in the game.
Regular season, Marner makes it into the faceoff circle and looks for Matthews or a point man. Once the increased hitting starts (March thru playoffs) he has to button hook earlier (to avoid the tighter checking those longer passes don’t get through and he won’t pay the price (so far) to change.

That was a ripped shot for the Avs in OT. Even when they don’t give 100% they often still win.

Wild look out of sorts. Their fans think they will get in the lottery but forget it Minny: they are boring and will always pick in the teens.
