NHL 25 Discussion

They really need to implement some kind of tutorial system for the face-offs. I play online VS and I'm terrible at FOs, I don't know what I'm doing wrong and it isn't explained anywhere. Most of the time I'll even take the draw and the little green message saying "good timing" will appear but I still lose the face off. Incredibly frustrating.

I actually like the gameplay, and pick-up games are typically pretty fun now. Good enough for me at a discounted price.

I average 3 hits per game in WOC and one minor penalty every five games. If something isn't working for you, I'd suggest changing the approach.
Perhaps he's playing as an Enforcer? I dunno...I don't notice anyone ever getting a penalty when I get destroyed. I like playing as a TWF-Woody, who is very fast, but lacks in physicality. That man gets absolutely destroyed at times, and I honestly don't recall very man penalties against. I only notice my guy taking what feels like an hour to get back to his feet and is completely depleted of energy. Fun!

I will wait till next year who knows probably never buy the game again starting to watch TV and sports less and less and not care getting sick of video games in general last thing to go entertainment wise is music I guess probably gonna unplug from everything and trade in my smartphone for a flip phone if I even want a phone I hardly use any features on it that I depend on everything is meh boring garbage now.

Do you look at the coaches comments after each period?

I assume, if you struggle with Faceoffs, it will all be detailed in there.

Faceoffs are like a game of rock paper scissors. Certain grips/tie ups beat others. Timing isn't as important as which grip you use.

I haven’t played an easports NHL in a while, but like, why is one of the Jets coaches a cyborg?

I got NHL 25 as a Christmas gift after probably my longest stretch without an update. My last game was 2020, and yes I'm a geezer who played 94.

I thought going 5 years between games would result in a lot of updates. Game play seems pretty similar. It's clear that EA is focused on HUT and that money making beast. I'm mainly an offline player so I'm going to resist spending more on the game and stick to that.

What I am happy with, is the customization added to franchise mode. (Looks like that may have been added in a couple of years ago.)

Love that custom leagues can be created including picking how many games per season. I opted to create a 48 team mega league with 4 divisions x 12 teams, with just 22 GP all inter-div. US West (Sorry Utah you were cut), US East, Europe and finally Canada being filled in with custom created teams. Top 8 teams per div make the playoffs, rounds 1, 2, 3 are 2 Game Aggregate, then best of 3 Semi and Cup Finals.

I've simmed seasons and then played playoffs. What is frustrating about game play is that it feels almost like a rugby match with constant turnovers but either the checked player or his teammate still picking up the puck after briefly losing possession. Pokecheck is better than a full body check, but then creates the risk of a tripping penalty.

Also I've noticed almost no difference in difficultly between Pro and the level below. Feels like it's a matter of finetuning sliders.

First NHL game since 12 I didn't buy day one. Waited until the Christmas deal before I got it. Also the first one I've ever owned on Playstation.

So far what's really getting to me is the input lag. Not sure if it's my television or not, but navigating menus in franchise mode (my primary reason for buying) is a chore.

Also, as was my complaint last year, we didn't need an overhaul on controls. Not sure why they haven't allowed the use of custom controller mapping, or at the very least, let me pick the old skill stick (pre NHL 24)

I've only had about 3 or 4 hours on it, and primarily has been franchise mode, but so far I'd say it might even be worth less than the 25 bucks I shelled out for it.

That's something I do every year prior to running a single game along with turning off all commentators and game music. Didn't even consider it.
lol i was just muting the TV until i realized this installment has a lot more cases where a shot or a big hit might break a window - it is usually not obvious this happens and seems like the game stopped randomly.

I looked at tutorial videos online a few installments ago, it hasnt changed much since. It's mostly a game of rock paper scissors - like if he goes forehand, a certain backhand approach will work. It's not perfect, but there are often indicators as to what he si going to do. I also notice that some players use patterns, so i start being able to tell when they are going to use this play or that play, which usually lets you know what faceoff they will do.

Great advice, but not in anyway related to what I was complaining about.

Found the problem and fixed it. I had forgotten to turn off skating backwards automatically. Holding down LT to skate backwards while already doing so slowed me down considerably. Atleast it feels that way, haven't tested and timed it. And made my pivots slow as hell. Now i can pick up speed skating forwards and then pivot to face the opponent.
hahah were you like this? Pivot! - Friends
