Meh, their be a pro has sucked for years and it sucked before hut. Also 6s sucks because no one knows what they're doing. HUT is probably the only reason I'm buying the game anymore

The edgework is actually promising considering how badly skating needs an overhaul.

Maybe it will actually resemble NHL-level skating eventually. Right now even McDavid feels like an amateur on skates in terms of agility and acceleration.

Yeah, 6s suck in OTP because they have done a horrible job teaching people how to play over the years. I play club with computer d and they are all Kris Letangs jumping in the play and down in front of the opposing teams goalie. Then I go in OTP and see the same things because they know no better. They think that's how you are suppose to play. 6s with good people is fun. Community was at it's peak right before X1 came out. Then X1 came and no nhl game for the first year. Everybody lost their friends and the community died.

You might want to look up "EA DDA" before you continue with HUT lol

I will say 3 on 3 otp was pretty fun. I've had good experiences there and it's a nice change. Like you said 6s is great with good people but good luck finding 11 other people who know what they're doing

As for DDA, I'm definitely aware of it but it hasn't really effected me to the point where I'm fed up with it. I'm confident enough in my abilities regardless of team quality and if I get screwed out of a win it's usually my own damn fault.

Don't need 11, just 5 :thumbu:

But I get what you're saying. Everyone usually quits before the games over.

The RPM (Real Player Motion) Tech is being compared to Fifa 18 and UFC 3.

Well UFC 3 is slow and the movement's not fluid whatsoever, yikes.

I'm not sure where EA got this idea that hockey needs to be slow. I understand that you don't what an arcade game, you want something that feels more strategy based than run and gun style, but hockey is a fast game and online gameplay needs a slight boost in speed, passing, shooting, etc.

Even with basically minor tweaks, I've bought the new game every year. This year, I'm so mad that I'm not even considering it. What the hell is this garbage? I want to play NHL 19, not Scrubs on Ice 19! I literally went down the list of the extremely few changes they made this year and I don't care about a single one of them. Not one of them is at all in any way interesting to me. How is that possible? Can a rival company please enter the market with some other choice? Because EA has failed us.

When will they allow custom button mapping? I use hybrid (because I like to use the "a" button to pass....everything else I use the same as skill stick) but I get screwed out of so many features, like line changes, puck protection, etc.

Yeah, I quit a lot of 6v6 OTP. One bad D man will ruin the entire game.

I dont know why I bother, tbh. I guess that slim chance that you get two teams that actually know how to play keeps me coming back.

The 'list' of features (lack thereof) just makes me feel better knowing that I have more fun playing NHL 04 than dealing with this hot mess.

Why do people like NHL 04 so much? The graphics, the feel, the skating, it's all fantastic for PS2 but the passing, shooting, goal scoring aspects were lacking IMO. I don't think PS2 really hit a home run till NHL 06. JMO

NHL 04 had an in depth Dynasty, didn't have EAids(Ice tilt), or tons of game breaking cheese.
It had it's flaws obviously but given that, it is still the last really good EA release, it was also the last PC release and has been modded to keep it current on that platform

What they should’ve done for ‘19, for BAP at least:

Send the game back 2/3 seasons; you’re a youth playing hockey on the pond, you join your CHL team, get drafted into the 18/19 season so it all seems accurate.

Instead what you do is play your CHL season in 18/19, get drafted by Team X and the roster is completely made up based on what the computer wants. Next thing you know, Ovi is a Coyote, JT plays for Texas and Crosby is a Flyer

I still actually play 06 from time to time, I’ve just been playing 04 for the Dynasty Mode lol. I never finished a complete 20 year run, almost there though! After I complete that I’ll take a run at NHL06 GM Mode

Modded NHL 04 is great. They improved a lot of things like lowering agility, etc. for all players. It's just fun.

@m88k

NHL 09 was still released on PC. But 05-09 were pretty... bad.

I will say this as disappointed as I am about the lack of new features if they nail the new skating engine I will definitely be buying it. I just popped in NHL 18 for the first time in a while and it is amazing how unfluid and robotic the skating feels. Trying to stop on a dime is such a chore and edgework feels almost nonexistent. That’s why that clip of Crosby using the edges of his skates behind the net in the trailer excites me a bit.

In the meantime for offline players I do find the skating works better if you up the game speed to 4 or 5 and set attribute effects to a maximum 10/10. I’ve even gone as far as editing the speed of over 250 players to at least a 90. They are all players who I believe to be fast and to make sure it isn’t too overpowered I only have the speed of about 10 -12 of them at 93 or higher. Those guys would be guys like Mcdavid who feels a lot better to play with under my sliders.

Still I shouldn’t have to do all that tinkering just to get skating to work somewhat like I want it to so hopefully this new engine will change that.

Man, I bought NBA 2k18 this weekend, and I don't even like basketball a fraction of how much I like hockey, but that game is just 100x better

In fact it just pisses me off how good it is. The Be a Pro mode in 2K is just light years ahead of NHL. Its just sad how lazy EA is

NHL pretended to half ass some of what 2K has with like the team morale stuff and a few years ago when they had you answer interview questions, but the results are so random and pointless. 2K just feels so authentic

- The good players in 2K actually feel and play much differently than the bad ones, unlike NHL where everyone feels the same.
- Player types actually feel different, unlike NHL.
- Training your character in 2K is actually fun, whereas NHL just has you click "train skating" once a week.
- The player models are amazing. There are legitimate cut scenes with your player interacting with your actual coach and teammates, not to mention an actual story to your player.
- Facial scan features so you actually look like your player.
- The currency you earn is actually worth something. What a novel concept. In NHL if you earn a big contract your money serves no purpose. In 2K you can buy gear, emotes, and more importantly improve your character
- Its actually fun to play with AI. In NHL the AI is so frustrating in BAP that I just constantly want the puck on my stick so they don't dilly dally and f*** it up. 2K its actually fun to play your position
- Your BAP character can meet up and play with your friends BAP player
-
I could go on quite a bit more. Again, not even a basketball fan, but I had more fun playing with my 2K character than I ever had playing NHL BAP. And I love hockey 100 times as much as basketball.

Its really sad how pathetic the NHL games are, and how us fans are just so used to it. I really don't think I can buy another NHL game after seeing how good sports games can actually be when the company gives a shit. At least not until some major changes

TLDR: I just realized how good sports games can be playing NBA 2k, and now I don't know how I can ever go back to shitty EA NHL

I agree, I don't know why NBA 2K basketball can personalize player moves in that game so well plus the player fluidity/reactions mimick a real live game. And I haven't played that game for a few years now. Why the NHL series can't do this is beyond me. This really is the 1 element/aspect they need to address first before anything else and then go from there.

Honestly it's beyond pathetic that they're not even attempting to do something with Be A Pro.

Just drop the mode. I won't be buying for the second year in a row.

So I was hoping this Pro-Am thing would be something cool to maybe save a bit of this game.

Nah, it’s just you and up to two friends playing against the CPU on the pond. So you can’t even do you and two friends against another 3 people online at all

Sounds more and more trash the more I read about it. Their selling point for Franchise Mode is a more in depth Scouting System.. Real treat for the offline players that is.

The introduction of the Real Player Motion is slightly encouraging but why if it was used for Fifa 18, was it not used for NHL 18?

It comes across like the NHL devs cannot or will not develop the games to how good they could be and are relying on other EA Sports titles to design new 'technologies' and modes, which NHL will then shove into their game. Cut and paste, but with a bit more emphasis on the visuals.
