Well there that goes...

Don't feel down, someone always forgets about these by the time the game is out. I'll keep you first on the waitlist for when a spot opens up.

EDIT: P.S., are you the Kesselysnipes who made that wicked Inglourious Basterds-style Leafs vid on YouTube?

As flames gm my biggest needs are a top 6 C and a top 4 D both have to be under 30 and I am willing to take salary dumps if they match either of those descriptions. Only roster players I am interested in trading are Hudler,Butler, and maybe Cammalerri, but picks and prospects are available except for Monohan and possibly my 1st (I will only include my 1st in a deal if I get back a young dynamic top 6 C or top 4 D, like a Stepan or Del zotto

Played the demo today, I liked it. Only the 2 teams but still good.

Also the fighting is sick, I like how its not zoomed in now and stuff. Just had a seabrook vs Lucic tilt lmao.

Wonder if the fighting will result in more injuries.

Definitely will be a learning curve, slower pace with players. Love the new hit animations.

Honestly, the only huge difference I noticed from the demo from NHL 13 was the fighting. Also is there always a fight after a big hit? Every time there was a big hit the CPU would come running at me to fight LOL

I also kinda noticed that players always face the puck now when skating and that's really all

Lots of good prospects for sale like Jurco, Ferraro, Sproul plus any draft picks available for proven players.

NHL 13 had a lot of significant upgrades. For instance: True Performance Skating, GM Connected (with phone app + HUT), Live Moments. Top three things with NHL 14 is Checking Engine, Fighting, Live the Life. All very minor features in comparison.

It is a very minimal upgrade. A few (mostly negative) thoughts after a thorough playthrough of the demo:

  • NHL 94 mode is useless, in my opinion. It could be done completely (sans blue ice) by changing a few settings. And it might be played a few times at most by each player. I feel the same about Live the Life mode. It's just a bunch of text. You get a generic question, you get the generic politically correct answers, and a few ridiculous ones that no hockey player in their right mind would ever use. It seems like they pushed this mode onto some poor intern.
  • The checking is improved and much easier to do, but it looks like stickchecking has been nerfed badly. Goalies still have a strange bubble around them, but it's not as hard to hit them as it was in NHL 13.
  • Backhands are better. Looks like goalies have been tuned down a bit from making ridiculous reflex saves, which is nice as well.
  • Loose dekes have been slowed down, probably to get people to use the "new" quick dekes more, some of which are copies of the loose dekes. I don't really see why this would be considered a new feature. Now you can use L1+LS to deke instead of L1+RS? How is this new or any "quicker?"
  • Given the Bruins & Hawks ratings, I can see that EA NHL just bumped up everyone to avoid people complaining about the lack of effort in the rosters, which is not the correct solution. Stars are inflated, no matter how they performed last year. 94 for Chara? 92 for Toews? 89 for Seabrook? And I like Bergeron and Sharp, but 89 and 88?
  • The best thing about NHL 14 is fights. Much improved, and pretty fun. I like the celebrations (McLaren's move is in there - circle button). Also, when it's player vs. player, you'll have the option to initiate a fight or ignore the check/whatever, so that should tone down the frequency. But I don't see why a player charging in from across the ice to instigate a fighter after a clean doesn't get an instigator.

All-in-all, NHL 14 feels more like NHL 13.1, but I feel most die-hard hockey fans will get the itch to play and buy it eventually, if not immediately. This didn't (or at least shouldn't have) taken a year. It's pretty obvious that they put minimal effort into this so they could focus on the next-gen NHL 15.

I understand acquiring a young top 6 C and a young top 4 D will be difficult for me so if I am unable to do that I am also interested in continuing the full rebuild in Calgary and I will listen to offers for any players except for backlund, Baertchi, Monohan and Brodie, everyone else can be had for the right price. I am only interested in young players and prospects not much interest in draft picks. Feel free to PM me any offers
