Not trying to be funny but that would be a sign they care. I think "apathy" among the fanbase is what Melynk is talking about mostly.

You're probably right about that but unfortunately for Senator fans, changing the adjective to describe them does not change the way he owns and runs the team. Expecting near unconditional loyalty from a fanbase no matter what you do typically does not generate good results

Most people mostly care about their own team. That means if philadelphia is playing washington, a toronto fan isn't really watching. A chicago fan isn't watching. So when toronto or chicago does host one, for the 5 million fans, its not overdone, because its the first time they do it.

The big majority of fans only care about their own team so the only way it's overdone to them is if their team has done it many times.

After the 03 game, many college, junior, and minor league teams played an outdoor game...but when the next NHL one came out, it wasn't considered overdone because those fans didn't care to watch those college, junior, minor league teams play in their outdoor games. Whether you think it's overdone is entirely based on if YOU decided to watch more than you'd like. For most fans though, they only care abut their own team, not what some other team, or another league does.

That's the point. It used to have somewhat of a national appeal. Now it has absolutely none.

I agree that outdoor games have lost their appeal, but this one is pretty special. Ottawa vs Montreal in Ottawa was the first game in NHL history almost 100 years ago to the day (December 19, 1917). In fact, I believe the game was actually played at Landsdowne, which is where the game today is being played.

This montage was great until they decided to show cup wins and added Gilmours wrap around in there for some reason.

Hey... CBC they didn’t win anything that year either... it’s the equivalent of showing Burrows OT g7 goal.

Funny they always have to wear bad Icethetics quality jerseys when teams play outdoors. As if teams shouldn't look like themselves just because they aren't in an arena.

This would have been much better or cared about if the Senators weren’t the team involved. Them or the Jets are brutal for the casual fan to want to watch.

100 yr game should have been Leafs-Habs.

Why? The first ever NHL game was between the Sens and Habs 100 years ago on December 19 1917. Makes sense to have the two teams play eachother again exactly 100 years later.
