I don't think K'Lavon Chaisson or Jack Gibbens is going to keep the Patriots from drafting Walker, if they think he's the best player available.
Draft left tackle at four and then draft Carson Schwesinger UCLA round two. Same player.

If they make the pick at 4, they have to go with best player available. Too many holes all over the roster to draft for need that high

I’ll easily be able to talk myself into it
Breer is on Early Edition one or two weekdays and Friday morning on 98.5 Sports Hub

He’s been jonesing for Jalon Walker and for good reason - he’s attacking and gets after it

Jalon Walker

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY

Walker's explosiveness off the edge and development as an off-ball linebacker jump off the screen. His combination of twitch and power reminds me of Anthony Barr coming out of UCLA – a defensive weapon waiting to be unleashed. The way he demolished Texas's protection scheme with three sacks showed exactly what he can be at the next level.

The Ravens or Cowboys would be perfect landing spots, where creative defensive minds could maximize his versatility as both a stack linebacker and designated pass rusher. His closing speed and natural feel for rushing the passer scream third-down playmaker from day one. The coverage skills are still raw, but the athletic traits and processing speed suggest he'll develop quickly in that area.

Give Walker two years in an NFL strength program while letting him hunt quarterbacks on passing downs, and you're looking at a defensive cornerstone. His film against SEC competition proves he can hang with NFL-caliber athletes. The ceiling here is a Pro Bowl linebacker who defensive coordinators can deploy as their ace card – whether it's shutting down tight ends in coverage or creating havoc off the edge. Few prospects in this class offer that kind of game-changing potential.

Things that make you go 🤔

It's peak silly season. Everyone's lying. But the Browns have had Will Campbell, Mason Graham, and Jalon Walker in for top 30 visits. I'm sure it's most likely due diligence in case someone offers them something they can't refuse, but it's certainly interesting to look at the names from the perspective of who the top options might be after the obvious top 3 picks.

As for the Patriots' interest in Walker, it wouldn't surprise me if they're trying to drum up interest for a trade. Hype their interest so someone gets desperate to go up and grab him.

Exactly, silly season. Everyone is trying to throw their opponents off. I would take all the recent movement on the draft board with a grain of salt.

That's really interesting coming from Tampa because that feels like a spot where a trade up for a QB, OT, or WR could make some sense for some teams. I keep thinking if they want a Conerly/Simmons, or Egbuka/Burden, that they're going to need to trade up quite a bit.

"The number of evaluators who are unbothered by Will Campbell's arm length really stands out to me. I was hard pressed to find an exec or coach who doesn't view LSU's Campbell as the best tackle of this class, and those same people told me his length wasn't a concern on tape. I'm not ignoring his 32⅝-inch arm length from the combine, but most people I talked to are bullish on Campbell becoming a really good left tackle. He has excellent footwork, balance and body control to hold up as a pass protector."

Giants flying out to Colo again for private Sanders workout. I think Browns take Hunter. I can see Carter being available at #4 and we take Campbell anyway.

Listening to Todd McShay's podcast from today. Couple of interesting nuggets of information:
  • "[Other teams] are telling me don't close the book on Shedeur to the Giants at #3."
  • McShay said the re-emergence of the possibility that the Giants could take Sanders at #3 is the reason Carter visited the Patriots today.
  • McShay on the Patriots pick at #4: "I'm told it's either Abdul Carter if he falls to #4, or it's Will Campbell."
  • Part of the reason why Campbell is going to be the first tackle drafted this year is he's a high character kid in a draft where the OT class is plagued with character concerns.
  • The perception is that Campbell and Membou are in the same tier of OTs in this draft, and then the likes of Banks, Simmons, and Connerly are in the next tier down. McShay says that when he talks to NFL people, they put Campbell in his own tier, and tell him that Membou is the best of that next tier of OTs
