Patriots/NFL NFL Patriots Off Season

Abdul Carter to Pats at 4? Would the Giants take him over Sanders? Maybe the Pats end up with Graham. Wouldn’t make headlines but he’ll be a solid player. This draft sucks

Realistically, the only hope that ever existed for Hunter or Carter at #4 was Jimmy Haslam or John Mara forcing their teams to take Sanders because the evaluation was never going to say he was worth a top 3 pick. We've heard repeatedly how scouts have a 2nd round grade on him. We've heard repeatedly how it's a 2-man draft (Hunter/Carter). It should be obvious what will happen. We can try to convince ourselves that the Browns and Giants are bad organizations and bad organizations make bad decisions, but a strategy that relies on others doing something stupid isn't a good strategy.

We can probably say the same thing about someone trading up. Maybe we'll get lucky, but I'm fully expecting the pick to be Campbell, or maybe Membou, at #4. It will be similar to free agency, where you can get good, not great, players, but the asset management isn't great because you're overpaying. It will probably work out fine, but it's just not going to be a pick that elevates the team, which is a shame.

For what it's worth, I read an article from Bert Breer this morning where he says Georgia LB/Edge Jalon Walker "has a shot" to be the first non-QB to be selected after Hunter and Carter. On Friday, Breer wrote that he thought Walker would appeal to Mike Vrabel.

Tonight, I'm watching a podcast where Mike Giardi is doing a Mock Draft. First three picks are Ward, Hunter, and Carter. At #4, Giardi has the Pats picking... Jalon Walker. Says Walker has a lot of fans within the Patriots' organization.

OK, so that's twice in a day I've seen someone connect the Patriots and Walker, and they're both guys who have connections both nationally and locally. Now my ears are up.

Todd McShay repeating what an NFL exec said to him recently: "What's the difference between Walker and Carter? A couple of inches?"

Mike Mayock has Walker rated ahead of Carter and compares him to Micah Parsons.

I’ll easily be able to talk myself into it
