I don't think you'll get Greig or Kleven on bridge deals at those numbers.

Greig will likely be looking for a Pinto type bridge (~3.5-4M) assuming he puts up 40-50 points, while Kleven is likely to also be around ~3M on a bridge if can play a solid 17-18 minutes a night all season this year.

I'm also skeptical of Ullmark at 7M. If he does what we hope in ~60 games, he's probably asking for closer to 8M.

If we want to keep everyone, including Giroux, it'll be do-able but pretty tight. I don't think we'll have $4.5M to spend in free-agency. Maybe around ~750k-1M.

Not 100% if some of your assumptions are accurate, such as Ullmark signs at $7M (may need to be more like $8Mish to keep him here), Meri signs at $1M (and is ready), and that Yakemchuk is ready to stay.

That said, going with that premise, I think we may need to upgrade 2 out of our 3 4th liners to be good role players who can skate/defend/fight if needed. In addition, unless Kleven really proves himself, may want to try to upgrade his spot instead of investing $1.5M with someone more reliable and Kleven can be 7 D (or you sign someone else cheaper).

If those players prove themselves and not as much upgrading is needed there, perhaps we get a fringe top 6 player who can push Amadio down and play with Perron and Greig?

I do think this could be a competitive team with those upgrades, assuming they do well this season and get the experience of competing in/for the playoffs.

Fair enough. But if Greig outs up 50 and Kleven earns a 3M bridge then I think don't need much else, assuming nobody drops off significantly or is replaced by equal cap value players.

I suspect he wants at least 6 years at $8M, preferably 8 years. I can see a team in the USA doing 8 X $8M to sign him (e.g., Buffalo) when he becomes a UFA next summer.

I'd offer an additional year to Giroux if he goes down to $4 million aav. I'd love it if Ullmark took $7 million aav for 6 years.

Kleven has to have a helluva a rookie year to get more than JBD (who is currently better than Kleven).

Hoping Sogaard can be a back up next year so we don't have Forsberg's $2 million on the books (unless Ullmark expresses wanting to keep Forsberg there)

We'll need to add a significant forward IMO. Giroux and Perron will be 37 y/o, Norris health is so uncertain and it will take a bit of time before we have full faith in it. Amadio should maybe be your 9th-10th forward at best.

Hopefully we can find another Giroux, or at least a Tarasenko stop gap until we can "manufacture" another building block forward.

The Pinto deal to compare to Greig is the one he was negotiating last year prior to the gambling suspension. There are multiple players more productive than Greig should be who signed 2.XX x 2 type bridge deals.

I don't think he is likely to put up 50 points with his role. I could see him in that 30 point territory again. He will either sign a cheap 1 year deal to bridge him to arbitration, or a 2 x 2.5M type deal.

Kleven will be a 10.2(c) RFA with only one full season under his belt. I could see 3M if it is a longer 3-4 year type deal, but on a bridge deal I think he gets somewhere in the 1.75M-2.5M type range. Defensemen don't seem to command big bridge deals. Schneider signed for just above 2 in New York, with multiple seasons of NHL experience. Even someone like Evan Bouchard only got 3.9M x 2 on his bridge deal. Marrio Ferrero got 3.XX x 4 playing big minutes on a bad team. I just don't see a 17 minute defensive defenseman with one season and no leverage getting much, unless the Senators get term and also want to gamble on term.

Let's assume he takes similar money, that leaves the Senators with 10.5M to fill 9 spots. I think that Greig and Kleven will combine for about 4.5M. That leaves the team 6M to fill 7 spots (857k per spot). If Giroux takes a bit of a discount, let's say 5M instead of 6.5M, that would leave them with 7.5M to fill 7 spots (1.07M per spot). Either way, it's doable.

I don't think JBD gets qualified. He was scratched for the home opener, and if I recall his name was out there previously. It doesn't seem like he's made the cut so to speak. Qualifying him means he can go to arbitration and get a settlement that the Senators will not be able to walk away from.

It also wouldn't surprise me if their big move next season is to try and find a Chychrun for Jensen type trade to move Chabot. AKA, they don't get anything sexy back, but they move a star player for a piece that fits better.

Could of focused on Stu and his 18 goals, or Chabot and his slow pace of play, he goes after the injured guy because he’s an easy target. I guess Garrioche has learned after Melncyk that beating up on the fans ( was the worst run franchise in pro sports) wasn’t smart so he’s looking for a new whipping boy. Spell checking on the internet is very similar to correcting people for using the wrong title in addressing you, it has nothing to do with fundamental culture or collective community, it has everything to do with people who feel powerless using the only power they feel they have in them, and that’s to correct peoples spelling and how they address you because they don’t have the courage or stamina to change the world so their feeling of powerless manifest into power when they can correct someone for using the wrong title “I’m a they not a he” and when they are alone they spell check people on the internet for the smidgen feeling of being empowered.
