I'd bring Spezza back for 4th line. Galchenyuk showed me something for 3rd line. Mikheyev and Engvall are complete zeroes. I really don't like that 4 man core. One of them needs to be dealt. Otherwise you need a physical shooter on top 2 lines. Do not overpay for whoever plays as 3rd guy on top line. Robertson who I like can be trade bait because you need a top dman. Dump Rielly, he's not happy anyways with what happened/

Josh has better raw skills in my opinion too .. but Zach has a motor that drives harder than Josh has ever been .. but it is close either way
True but if they are the same price, I think most GMs will pick Anderson instead of Zach.

I think Zach’s best comparable is Connor Brown.

I think the fact that Reilly wearing a YVR shirt in his season ending zoom presser is no accident

You like Josh I would take Zach but it is a solid debate and both of us are right .. Brown is nowhere near either on either skill level or compete level that is apples and oranges my friend

When it comes to Brown and Zach numbers, they are not as far apart as some think.

so youre saying that because the locker room was soft that he wont return?
What gave you that impression :sarcasm:

I'm saying probably not the culture he expected especially coming from CBJ. It was clear when the fans did not understand why he fought Perry that it was not about the JT accidental hit.

For some reason these gritty guys stops playing with grit after joining the team. Simmonds fought, walked guys out of the crease, etc. and he was a totally different player (soft) in the playoffs. I was expecting Muzzin to hit everything in his path but they all looked neutered out there.. somehow they feel like nobody has their backs.

Thanks for the response.
Just another follow up question. We are talking about pro athletes and they are the best of the best in World. Are they really that narrow mind or stubborn to the point that they can’t adjust with who they are playing on the ice?
I've obviously never coached in the NHL so I'm not really sure. You would think so, but they are also playing against pro athletes who can capitalize on an error in a split second.

I'm sure most teams have different play styles for lines but all within the same structure so not much to adjust to.

I thought same thing maybe a Canucks deal in da offing .. Marner and Rielly for Horvat Beagle Hughes and 2022 1st with Myers to equalize CAP .. I would do it .. Canucks would feel they won deal .. Horvat will help us in playoffs and Mitch could help Canucks get to playoffs

Can we get an Aho?

Every time I watch him play I think the Leafs stars should be forced to watch Canes post-season games and ordered to list 5 things he does every game that they don't.

You are right all 3 guy has averaged just over 16 goals a season over past 5 years .. it is literally a dead heat between da 3 .. i would have thought Zach would have had at least a 2 goal average lead over both other 2 guys .. wow Josh got way overpaid by Habs

should have asked mgmt that when they took Dermott one spot earlier in the draft.

If we're dead certain on bringing the big 4 back, we really should go back to Matthews-Nylander and Tavares-Marner. Marner and Matthews get way too cute together, and it's too easy to shut him down when there's no other scoring threat on the line.

Why would people still put Marner and AM together. They need to spilt up to spread the offence. If their individual stats drop, who cares, it is winning in the playoffs that matters.

I think Kerfoot will be expose and be pick up by Seattle.
Andersen won’t come back, so there’s about 8.5mil to play with.
Would resign Gally, Bogo and Spezza all for the same one mil or less. Will give a bit more for Bogo if needed.
Resign Big save Dave as backup for 1.5mil since Campbell is only making 1.6mil.
Give Hyman a 2mil raise to 4.25mil for 5 yrs.
That would leave 5mil and hopefully that’s enough to convince both Nick and Nash to come back.

Nick-AM-Robertson
Hyman-JT-Marner
Gally-Spezza-Willie
Soup-Nash-Engvall
Brooks

Reilly-TJ
Muz-Holl
Dermott-Bogo
Sandin

Campbell
Dave

Would be nice if Marner is traded to Caps for Wilson and Mantha but I don’t think that will happen.

No Dave is not the guy

Hyman – Matthews – Marner
Galchenyuk – Tavares – Nylander
Robertson – Kerfoot - Mikheyev
Haula – Cizikas - Engvall

Spezza - Brooks

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Sandin - Bogosian

Lillegren

Campbell
Mrazek

I still don't see any radical changes like everybody is expecting except maybe Gallant as Head Coach. Dermott lost in the expansion draft, Hyman, Galchenyuk, Spezza and Bogo all resigned and Mrazek, Haula and Cizikas added as FA's

Engvall has got to go

I want to see Marner traded. With his trade I want big young winger and big young dman along with picks. Players dont need to be NHL ready but need to be top prospects and ready in a year or two.

I want to see Reilly and Engvall traded for another young big winger and draft picks. Same deal here as with Marner. I want players that with high ceiling and will be NHL ready by next year or the year after.

I want to see Perry signed as he should have been instead of Thornton. So lets get it right this time. Have Tavares recruit him on the minimum.

I want to see Saad signed as well. Play him on top 2 lines preferably with JT.

I want Coleman signed. Physical winger that agitates and can kill penalties with speed.

Sign Doug Hamilton. Make the Kessel trade right. Will cost money.

I want Hyman, Rittich, Simmonds, Gally, Spezza and Bogo resigned.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Gally-Tavares- Saad
Micheyev-Kerfoot-Coleman
Simmonds-Spezza-Perry

Brodie-Hamilton
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Bogo

Campbell
Rittich

By eliminating Marner, Reilly, and Andersen as big contracts you should be able to fill those voids with Hamilton, Hyman and Saad.

Thornton and Engvall contracts should allow you to sign Perry and Coleman with other resignings like Bogo, Simmonds, Spezza and Rittich taking less on their new deals.

It may work. But this is what i would do.

Not sure Matthews will want to give up his shot at another Rocket and share the goals with Nylander.

I have few words right now trying to wrap my head around what management is actually trying to do with this club right now. For the first time in a couple years I am ACTUALLY INTERESTED to see what they do in the next 30 days. Honestly, this is not a rosey picture they have here. I was fooled into believing this club was positioned well for a deep playoff run.

We missed the playoffs last season and were dispatched by the worst playoff team in the league this year. We will lose Hyman who did bring some things to the club during regular season but is getting older and way more expensive while also providing NOTHING in the playoffs. We will lose Kerfoot who was a great 3rd line center for us especially these playoffs. Next year Reilly will command a large increase as well while IMO is not worth that money. Spezza will be another year older as will Muzzin.

Even just getting this team back to those levels is going to be a difficult task unless they roll the dice and make a couple of large trades with our big contracts. Right now I would much rather have a solid combo of 2-3 top 6 to top 9 forwards instead of Marner.
