They sold the rights to freaking Amazon, what did they expect? Their precious IP not being gobbled up and churned into content paste?

Edit: eh, I guess that was MGM, not necessarily the Bond folks, but still an annoying outcome.

Wonder how much they paid her for control.

This an be a good thing if they cast well like for Reacher or terrible like for Ring of Power..

Tune in for Season 1 of Jane Bond! Streaming on Prime January 2027!

We haven't gotten a great Bond film since "Casino Royale" so this isn't completely disappointing. Amazon has little good faith to trust them with handling something like this however so I'm sure we're going to get a bunch of mid-content. Pending great reviews I'll be staying far away.

This is where I make a statement either you know why or you do not know why

There is no way in HELL they would use JANE BOND.... if you know you know

Inconceivable!

I don't get all the hullabaloo. Daniel Craig was good in his first two movies. Before that, the last good Bond was GoldenEye.

The series as a whole has way more stinkers than good movies. I don't think this is the death knell people are making it out to be

I don’t think it’s a death knell, I just think it’s the continued over saturation of media. James Bond is at his best when there’s a few years between entries, and now there will probably be 100 episodes of various in-universe spinoffs

I agree that this is terrible news. I haven't even liked a Bond movie in 30 years, but at least the people making them seemed to respect the franchise (well, except maybe when it came to the last one). I don't have faith that Amazon will do the same. I fear that they'll treat it with the same respect that they showed The Lord of the Rings and milk it like they're doing with the Reacher spin-off that no one asked for. Eventually, they may even stop making movies and just make a Bond TV series, instead, so that a subscription to their streaming service becomes the only way to get 007. Regardless of what they do, though, I'm afraid that it's not going to be good for the franchise.

Exactly. There's been some pretty bad Bond movies, but you kind of knew there will be good ones here and there. Because at the end of the day the franchise had too much prestige to continuously f*** it up.
The key was that there was always a few years between movies, so people could actually get the chance to get excited again.

Now there probably will be so much content that people will get sick of it and the prestige of the Bond brand will get turned into regular TV content.

The "last good Bond" film talk sounds like film nerd shit, I'm sorry. First, it's never been a series known for consistent quality. Second, even when it's kinda bad, it's still a fun popcorn flick and doesn't strive to be anything more.

I don't have any loyalty to it. I'm not British and I'm younger than 50. But people get really wound up about it.

There are absolutely times when I'm in the mood to watch Moonraker instead of From Russia With Love.

This seems like a good time to impart some useless information. As some of you may know, Ian Fleming got the name "James Bond" from an American ornithologist: James Bond (ornithologist) - Wikipedia.

Bond (the real one) died in Philadelphia, at Chestnut Hill hospital. My father was an oncologist there, and Bond was one of his patients.

Hopefully they don't milk the shit out of it by releasing a dozen different TV series over the next decade.

That said, I would watch a Bond period drama set in the 50s or 60s.

Well, then they'd have to hire a bunch of different actors to play the role. Doubt, 1 person wants to be tied to that role. I mean, the Reacher actor does this 8 part series and can do other roles in between (though, for Reacher, he can't drop the weight for other roles, since it's so hard to put it back on. Basically has to be like the Rock and maintain that size until the Reacher series are done).

I love the Bond movies, definitely my favorite franchise but I'm a simple man when it comes to Bond, I just want to see Bond be a cool badass, drive awesome cars and beat the bad guy.

I think the Bond franchise is an absolute bore but I still hate this news as it means more franchise popcorn entertainment and less original quality entertainment.

The problem I see is oversaturation of the "shared" universe that so many IP address' have become.

I can see Amazon calling up either Dalton or Brosnen to see if they want to do a "retired" Bond in trouble and getting chased

Jason Statham will play a Bezos style Bond who will have to fight a south african entrepreneur villian that is trying to hold to world hostage with nuclear war heads that he has installed on his mars base.

And the movie will probably still be better than Spectre and No Time to Die...

I'm not sure why people say the last good bond movie was 20 years ago. Skyfall from 2012 is a pretty good movie and almost certainly a top-10 bond movie or all-time.

Craig's top-2 bond movies were certainly better than Brosnan's top-2, or Hutton's (yeah, I know he was only in 2), and Moore's.
