Assuming USA is fully healthy, I have them as the favourites in Italy.

I think this is kind of silly though. I mean it's not like Team Canada or Team USA are static things. The players are always changing. Team USA 2025 is not Team USA 2014. I mean the Habs had a pretty good track record for years. It doesn't really apply now.

I wasn't making a literal comparison to the political events. I was referring to what was motivating the eventual winning team. In this case, it was politics.

As baseball is (was?) the US pastime, hockey is Canada’s. The same thing is happening in hockey as happened in baseball as more of the world embraces your game as their own.

The teams were simply playing hockey. During those 120+ minutes absolutely guaranteed politics was hardly a concern. These are professional hockey players. Such an artificial narrative.

McDavid scored because he is the greatest hockey player in the modern era. Simple as that.
