I dont follow the NBA at all but I'm pretty sure Barkley loves hockey. I think its more likely they try to do more crossover type promotions kinda like how fox or bally does the "tune in and watch the hornets" or whatever but on a bigger scale.

ESPN has done an announcer swap between the NBA and college basketball a couple of times in the past.

Now I'm imagining an NBA-NHL announcer swap. It sounds like a terrible idea for someone like Barkley or Hubie Brown to call an NHL game.

Then I think about Pierre Maguire as an NBA sideline reporter and I cannot wait to watch.

that sounds fairly terrible.

The NBA announcers are bad enough when they switch to college and know the sport but now they go to a sport they dont know. Hard pass.

i guess will get fewer Carolina stories if a switch. That is about all Kenny Smith is worth.

Just a FYI on the end of the season. If we win the Detroit game and at least 1 game against Chicago in regulation we will have a tied or winning record against every team in the central.

It would be a *chef's kiss* masterpiece to end the season with a tied or better record against every team in the Central except the mighty Detroit Red Wings.

So we just win that game in regulation and take a winning record against every team but the Bolts (who we tied) into the playoffs. That would kinda suck to know that the Wings are the only team we couldnt push around. Good thing we dont have to play Ottawa. Also good thing we werent in the North. We might have the worst record in the league.

Saw this on Reddit:

In all but one of their losses, they have been within a goal for at least one second in the third period. To be in the thick of things for all but one game is incredible. I don’t know how often that happens, but I would assume that it isn’t very common. Oh, and those losses aren’t coming very often to begin with.

That’s crazy to think about.

"They have been within a goal for at least one second in the third period"

That's a weirdly tortured way to phrase it, since there was no game where we were within a goal for only one second of the third period.

Here's what I have as our 3rd period "close loss" record:

1/16 @ DET - tied for 8:40, one goal game for 9:24
2/4 @ CHI - tied for 9:38, one goal game for 10:09
2/8 @ CBJ - tied for 15:24, one goal game for 4:36
2/22 vs TBL - tied for 8:04, one goal game for 11:16
2/24 @ TBL - were behind 2+ the entire period
2/25 vs TBL - tied for 6:22, one goal game for 12:22
3/15 @ DET - one goal game for 19:34
3/30 @ CHI - one goal game for 20:00
4/3 vs DAL - tied for 2:52, one goal game for 17:08
4/12 vs DET - tied for 0:24, one goal game for 7:24

So out of a total of 200:00 3rd period minutes that we have played in losses (which is the mind blowing part of this) we have been:
- tied for 51:34
- within one goal for 111:53
- Therefore, within 1 shot of a tie or a lead for 163:27 (82%)

Now here's the even crazier part... 7 of those games ended up being multi-goal losses., and in all 7 of those games, the opponent scored an ENG. We have only lost one game all season by multiple non-ENGs, the 2/24 game against Tampa which was 2-0 going into the third period and ended 3-0.

Which means (and this is the kicker) that not one single time this season has an opponent scored on a guarded net to extend a lead on this team in the 3rd period. Not once in 47 games.

i would say this is main board worthy, but there is a game day thread for this sort of data mining

I'd save it for after the season is over. Right now, we know what type of response it would get, but after the season is over, more people would be willing to discuss the feat, rather than get into a pissing contest.

If I posted that on the main board, Canes would go out there tonight and let in 5 goals in the 3rd.
