And it feels like we've been going back in time over the last decade

Well, in the bad version of the future in Back to the Future, Biff comes into money and wealth by cheating and lying, eventually becoming a wealthy hotel tycoon that surrounds himself with beautiful models. He marries a woman that wants nothing to do with him and eventually becomes president. As president, he believes himself above the law and can do whatever he wants, and his company, Biff-Co, is actively destroying the environment for his personal gain.

If the same thing could happen in real life, that would be terrible and could certainly see a halt in many of the advancements, both social, scientific and technological, that we were quickly building towards. But luckily, we have so many cautionary tales available to us that it's unlikely to happen.

The fact that we’re as close to 2058 as we are to 1993 is really f***ing me up.
I’ve talked about it before but this reminds me of counting my years backwards from my year of birth, and where that puts me in history. Really gave me a new perspective on time and how close we are to history you always imagined as so much further away. It also makes you feel really old, but the daily reminders in my life usually take care of that.

I’d be in the roaring 20’s post ww1 during prohibition. During a time where electricity was just starting to be a thing the average person could have in their house. Before the dust bowls days I saw in black and white pictures as a kid and thought of as a different century.

Ooh, neat game.

I would be shooting Franz Ferdinand.

For me the USS Arizona is minding its own business in Hawaii on a nice calm December morning

This is like that game where you get your pimp name based on your mother's maiden name, the street you grew up on and the name of your first pet, right?

Anyway, I get the Army-McCarthy hearings and the French getting their asses kicked in Vietnam. Nothing I'd really think of as ancient history.

The more fun one for me is thinking about the time that's passed from familiar events and then going back that much again. We are now further from the end of WWII than WWII was from the Civil War, for instance. Go 122 years back from the Wright Brothers and you're in the middle of the Revolution.

Nothing to do with when my time line was but, I watched the Challenger disaster at school which was really crazy cause a teacher from the next district was on the list near the end and every teacher at my school knew her very well. Everyone just started crying and didn't say anything for what seemed like hours, before getting up and turning the TV off

I was in second grade when our teacher came into our room crying because Pres. Kennedy had been shot.

It was a very traumatic time with Kennedy viewed so favorably (only later was his “flaws” so widely known)

We got sent home from school when it happened, middle of the day. Didn’t see until I got home.
