For the sake of his mental and physical health, I would just like to be able to pair Slavin with someone he doesn't have to babysit and cover for 82 games. I feel like at this current pace, we're going to grind him down too early in his career.Given our lack of size on the blueline I wouldn’t mind saving a bit of money and moving out Chatfield and pairing Morrow with Ghost.
Slavin - X
Nikishin - Walker
Ghost - Morrow
We let that guy go in the offseason. For the sake of his mental and physical health, I would just like to be able to pair Slavin with someone he doesn't have to babysit and cover for 82 games. I feel like at this current pace, we're going to grind him down too early in his career.
Ghost-Morrow would be a horror-show defensivelyGiven our lack of size on the blueline I wouldn’t mind saving a bit of money and moving out Chatfield and pairing Morrow with Ghost.

Not sure I disagree with any of that
Hedican is the weird one for me. Feels like the wrong Bret/Brett there. But generally aligned.
See, I probably would have gone with Pesce/Gleason than Faulk/Hedican. But the rest seems correct.
Also did pretty well for himself on the marriage front as wellThe peak for Faulk was too high. He was a passable 1D for us through some dark periods that Gleason never was.
But I’d probably even take Gleason over Hedican. If you look at body of work as a Cane the only thing Hedican really has going for him over a number of guys is the Cup.
That would be one of the worst defensive pairings imaginable. Probably be great offensively. Basically five forwards.Given our lack of size on the blueline I wouldn’t mind saving a bit of money and moving out Chatfield and pairing Morrow with Ghost.

I don’t know about that….Hedican was basically the first version of Jay Bouwmeester. He was on his late career Hainsey legs with us, earlier on he was a defensive stud who could skate like the wind. Once he took to zone he didn’t have great offensive awareness but he was great in his own end. I was hoping early on Hanifin could grow into a Hedican. The peak for Faulk was too high. Hedican on Vancouver in 94 was a blast to watch. That team also had Jeff Brown who was an early version of Ghost - bomb of a shot.
Agreed. Pesce cumulatively has been more important to the team than Hedican. I love Hedican, but Pesce for me is almost tied with Faulk. It’s a balance of peak and longevity.
Pesce: 627 GP, 198 points
Hedican: 369 GP, 101 points
Pesce’s got him on points per game which is surprising (though era has more than a little to do with that).
Gleason: 546 GP, 107 points
To me it’s not really close that it should be Pesce, I could see the argument for Hedican over Gleason but Gleason is certainly more of a “Cane.” That said, if the team itself had anything to do with the inputs here I could see why they wouldn’t want to be claiming Pesce as an all-timer this close to his departure.

Just trying to figure out how we get some size on all three pairings and prevent between the dots domination from other team’s forwards, while trying to pair Nikishin with someone a little more solid than Chatfield. If there’s any chance Morrow gets integrated in the near future it would be with Ghost, they’re not going to roll with a rookie pairing of him and Nikishin, and he’s obviously not ready to handle top pairing duties with Slavin.Ghost-Morrow would be a horror-show defensively
