Virginia is for Lovers and there is no way in hell you would LOVE in Va?

Seriously though, that mountainous area of Rock Fish Gap / Afton almost all the way down to Roanoke and a bit to the northeast is nice. I'm not that familiar with that much of VA to comment on other areas though.
Shenandoah. Down toward rural retreat and chilhowie is better, but I am biased as I grew up there. From what I've seen you post, you'd have a much better time visiting Shenandoah. You won't like the people where I am from.

Just dont go in October. As I said, they make a huge mess of anything on Skyline to the peaks of otter. You're better off just heading to Pisgah.

I'm fine with any people. My entire immediate family are all big about gun rights (I also own a gun believe it or not), are big hunters, my sister and brother in-law live out on 80 acres and have dozens of guns, bows, crossbows, etc.. and almost all of them are conservative, some of them way right. Where our farm is, falls right into that same sort of demographic as well.

Some of my wife's relatives are exactly opposite, way far on the left.

I don't ascribe to either demographic and am able to associate with both. I just don't talk politics with either group.

Doing it for the '06 playoffs is both a very fond memory and was also a ridiculous stretch of two months from a personal schedule perspective that we all remember as well. It's not quite 2-3 nights per week (~6ish home games/mo), but that's still a legitimate life commitment.

Part of what makes it so inconvenient is that the dates don’t average out, they cluster into homestands. So you might go a week with no games, but the next week it’s T-Th-Sa. Long homestands, you’re looking at 6+ games in a row. Each home game is conservatively a 4+ hour commitment, requiring dinner plans and a late bedtime.

So you pretty much have to grind those dates, you’re like “No I can’t go out to dinner tonight, I just went to the Canes/Jackets game last night and I have to catch Canes/Ducks tomorrow. How’s next month looking for you?”

And then that’s assuming you’re not planning to watch road games, which is unlikely for someone hardcore enough to be attending every home game.

It’s still fun and all, but it’s enough to kill the novelty. I have to think most full STH miss/sell/gift at least a third of the schedule.

My mom and I were STMs back when I was in undergrad at NC State. Unfortunately the majority of home games that year fell on Tuesday/Thursday. Guess which days my differential equations class ran as an evening class?

It wasn't the worst thing in the world to have to miss most of them as this was during the dark ages and they were only cheap seats, but it was still disappointing to make the commitment and be unable to attend. Couldn't even give the tickets away for free back then!

IDK how people have the time to go to 36 home games even living in raleigh. I mean I guess, but, must me nice to have that kind of money and time off.

I wonder how many people actually go to the entire home schedule.
I went from the 11 (12 really) game package to the 21 game package, specifically to get playoff priority throughout the playoffs. I'd take my wife or one of my boys and we had a blast. Have a whole tail-gating ritual of sorts. Now my oldest son and I split a full season ticket package. We've been doing that for 2 years. We also sell/give away several games and it works out fine...especially when the team is good.

As far as VA is concerned, I grew up there (Culpeper), went to college there (Roanoke College), and loved it. I love going back and visiting. Culpeper still has a lot of rural, small town feel even though it's about 75 miles from DC. I've got kin in Charlottesville (Keswick, actually) and love that place as well. When I go up to VA I take 86 to 29 (Hillsborough through Danville, Lynchburg, and Charlottesville). Loved stopping at the breweries, wineries, cideries, and distilleries. It was also a ritual.

I'm sorry that some of you folks don't care for the state; I guess my experiences have been different than yours....both with the people and the places.

1-2 games a month is my max especially if I couple it with a game or two in Chapel Hill plus other events.

I tried to pull off a few double features last year but only managed one.
yep, I'll make the drive from Winston for the Friday and weekend games every time, might even take in a Thursday game due to my schedule, but the random Monday-Wednesday night? Not happening, especially if it's a matchup that I should be able to sell for a decent value, and if it's not I'll probably try to gift them to someone or just eat the loss.

When I had STM back in the day I had the 12 game or third of a season whatever. That was WAY ago. Then we sucked and I jettisoned that into the sun because I could get tickets for like 20.00. IDK how people have the time to go to 36 home games even living in raleigh. I mean I guess, but, must me nice to have that kind of money and time off.

They STILL call me to this day even though I've not been a holder since like 2010. I don't even live in NC any more (wish I did but my commute to work would be like an hour and 15 min, F that). We almost moved into Moyock or Tarboro like 4 or 5 years ago. But the commute. Now with interest rates through the roof because we we elect idiots that cause financial crisis from shutting the country down, I can't afford a new mortgage. No way I am paying 7 or 8 percent when I now pay like 2.

Still, I want out of VA. I hate this state even though I grew up here. I can't wait to get the f*** out of here.
The season that got canked for Covid I had a 22 game plan. Made it to 15 before the plug was pulled. And that was a marathon, even though I only live like 4 miles from the arena. I don't have a predictable where I even know if I'll be in town on whatever day. Was much more convenient in the days of the Caniac coach where it stopped right down the street from my house and never had to deal with parking or Uber.

Really now the only real benny is the playoff ticket thing. But this next season that is probably not going to be a factor, : (

And I lived in NOVA all throughout the 90s- was stationed there and went to college there as well. I hated it even back then- now it is a shitshow.

Nothing better than myself being 12 at the time and blissfully unaware of the financial burden and general lifestyle grind those playoffs enacted on my parents, worst thing for me was showing up to a few days of school a bit tired the next morning as it got progressively harder to make your way out of the parking lot as the rounds progressed.

We’re the same age and I feel this 100%.

Yeah the last few years strained my wallet so bad I've had to drop my season tickets, but the experience of being there for the runs is top notch. I did try to make as many games as I could during the regular season, but it seems like everyone sells about 25% of their allotment just because of how frequently the games hit. And it's stupidly expensive to be in the arena for a game when dinner and 1 beer will cost upwards of $50 per person.

As for Virginia, I grew up in Raleigh but went to Virginia Tech, mainly because I wanted to get away and not attend State in my backyard. Love the area, lots of great people and try my best to get back up for at least a weekend every year.

SW VA, up to Bristol and down to Winston really, is one of the most musical places in the world. I've spent most of my life running those roads playing tunes. It is is a special thing. If you ever have foreign visitors that want to see the best of American culture, that is a good place to take them.

I’m struggling with the framing of Nadeau having it easier to make the jump to the NHL than the jump to the NCAA. He and his brother destroyed the BCHL. He was obviously playing at a far higher level than the rest of that league so it wasn’t shocking at all he was a good freshman in college. He put up pts in the NCAA but he was not nearly as shift to shift dominant which isn’t surprising as he was a true freshman and he’s small.

Saying that the easier jump is one year later leaving college and his brother behind to be a top six forward in the NHL is certainly a statement….
