Kelly was building legit partnership/friendship with NHL ,, Lindros coup ended that and is reason for mess we have now

The moment Kelly was cast aside and Fehr hired ,, The 2012-13 season effectively died (And likely 2013-14)

You are the only person I know that is adamant that there is no 2013-14 season.

It is as if you are making this prediction just in the ridiculously-incredibly-unlikely case that it happens you can say, "I told you so."

You've nothing to back that up except for feelings and assumptions.

If this goes to courts you can pretty much wipe it out ,, Also as long as Fehr is head of NHLPA I doubt a deal is reached

The fact he actually has players convinced they can somehow win this fight is proof enough that we wont have NHL back for a longtime

I have been of belief since this began that we would lose 2 seasons ,, I have seen nothing to change my mind on that

Actually if they bust the union, we'll see replacement players.

Not with NHL/NHLPA

If season is cancelled this is going to court. Fehr has wanted to take a league to courts for sometime now in an anti-trust fight

He found a willing partner in NHLPA to finally achieve it ,, NHLPA lacks the IQ to realize the damage they are doing to there own future/union

We shall see what happens but I am of belief that we are heading for what would be comparable to "Nuclear War" between both sides

NHL will never be same

This will cause severe damage to nfl and nba in turn because the labor rules will change the landscape.

Did we raise our Eastern Conference Champions Banner yet?

Nobody is going to let it bleed over into another season. Absolutely nobody benefits from that and it would kill the league.

Ya, no kidding. It is way too early to say they'd lose another year. They have all spring and summer to come up with a deal. They'd probably lose the Cup, and they'd definitely lose all the momentum they built up with converting casual fans to the game.

Thing is I don't have 'any' faith that there's going to be a deal at this point either, and with the intractibility of both sides and how it's become a religious war it's not hard to see the worst-case scenario coming to fruition.

The only reason baseball ever came back in '95 was because the court granted an injunction ending the strike, and that union was led by Fehr too. Assuming the league isn't stupid enough to be that transparent (and the lawfirm of Bettman/Daly/Batterman probably isn't) and lose an injunction, it could drag out for a while. It took baseball years to actually negotiate a different CBA.

If both sides drive off a cliff now, it's not going to be Bettman/Fehr that 'ever' broker a deal. It's going to be decided in court one way or another.

I doubt it. Conference Champions is different then Division champions.

Not really. Neither gets a ceremony. I'd bet the Devils banner is up. The Operations Department at the Prudential Center has some free time and probably got it done already.

It wouldn't surprise me either way. It would be just like Lou to put it up quietly with no ceremony because we didn't win the whole thing.

Hope we get this started. Haven't heard a thing this week. I'm worried what Marty looks like after sitting a whole year if this thing gets nuked. I know people will argue with me, but I remember him being worse in the first half of 05/06 than he was the first half of the last two seasons. For those who swear by save percentage, he posted a below 900 for the first 25-30 games of that season too, and had no shutouts. That's often forgotten about though cause he was younger, and he actually wound up being nominated for the Vezina that year in the end. I think he was definitely better last year than he was in 05/06.

I give Marty an advantage over a lot of goalies if we get a shortened season because first of all there are very few goalies actually playing right now. Also, Marty has been here before so maybe this time he will know how to prepare for a shortened season better than anybody else. Plus he's Marty.

As I just posted on the main board to the naysayers who think we're finishing dead last, Marty's goaltending only cost us 2 or 3 games last year. As much as a certain poster claimed it was like 5 games before January. The games I remember are the Toronto game his first game back from injury, the Calgary game when Moose came in, and couldn't stop a beach ball either, and maybe that Toronto game where he was a statue in the shootout late in the season. Can't blame him for the blowouts like that pathetic Colorado game, or Bruins game he was in net for. In reality he was worse in 05/06 than he was last year. Take the first two rounds of the playoffs, and add them to his regular season, and he was better than 05/06 save percentage wise where he played at least 12 more games.

By the way speaking of Marty it's that time of the year where we should be seeing a ''Devils need to bench Brodeur'' thread, but there's no hockey!

I don't know. Sometimes Marty takes a few weeks to get into a groove, and with a shortened season, we can't afford to be bad during that time.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: An NHL player says the NHL made a new offer to the NHLPA on Thursday, one which moved on contract term limits, buyouts and variance...

Real_ESPNLeBrun: NHL offer calls for term limit on player contracts to be six years (7 if you're re-signing your own guys).

DarrenDreger: Among the changes in the new proposal, the NHL adjusted its max contract length from 5 to 6 yrs. Boosted the variance from 5% to 10%.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: New offer sees each team afforded one compliance buyout prior to 2013-14 season. Doesn't count vs. cap but it does vs. players' share

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Also the Make Whole $$$$ stays at $300 million

TAKE
THE
DEAL

Fehr can't be this stupid to turn it down, can he?

Also

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
In the interest of accuracy, @Eklund was first to report the NHL offer to NHLPA.

Why would he take the deal? It's more proof positive the NHL will move the closer the deadline gets.

Even merely negotiating off this deal would at least be a show of good faith but I'm just expecting more games from the PA and more false indignance from the union.

Because I want hockey damnit :sarcasm:

But no seriously, I think that losing like $100 million more by stalling this a week or two is really not worth the difference between this offer and what a mid-January deal would look like.

If this was solely about money for the 'current' PA it would have been settled in early October.

I am intrigued by the offer and love that the media heard about it the following day.
