Too bad the whole league wanted their pound of flesh from Lou and strong-armed us with the Kovy thing, he probably figures now 'you *****s can clean up your own mess on this one'.

Last meeting was about two weeks ago. I saw that they might meet the 27th/28th but there's still nothing scheduled. Idk how they can except to reach a deal like this.

It's a giant game of chicken right now. The next set of meetings will either result in a season or an official cancellation. Neither side really wants a cancellation, but whoever balks first loses the upper hand. It's pretty childish, and the drop dead date is approaching. I really don't believe they're that far apart and a deal can be reached within a day or two, but both sides are absurdly stubborn. Never expected it to last this long.

I cannot figure out for the life of me why they are fighting over something so small.

Lamoriello says he hasn't been involved in talks as he was in past lockouts. "I can't answer why."

Translation : "I'm p-ssed off right now at the league and its players. I'm too old for this sh-t."

Lamoriello: "We're getting to the 11th hour. It's coming down to the wire right now."

Translation : "It's not looking good right now for the 2012-13 season to be salvaged. "

Devils' Lou Lamoriello on NHL lockout: "I'm embarrassed for the game."

In many ways this isn't about what they actually are fighting about. There is a lot of history and distrust between the parties that dates back the Eagleson being a crook and selling out the players in CBA negotiations in the 80's making it where it is more personal between the parties and less business like as the other sports are

This league needs some rebuilding. But clearly they don't see anything wrong with 3 lockouts in 17 years. I'm interested to see the attendance for next year. Season or not this year, next years should go way down and hopefully they'll think twice about another lockout next time the cba expires.

Honestly though, as long as there is a season (and most importantly playoffs) I don't see much damage coming long-term. Everything that was said about the NHL during this lockout regarding damage was said about the NBA last year (even down to the part where people said they should worry that it seems no one cares) and then they had one of their best seasons in terms of attendance and viewership. Of course they didn't have a season like 04-05 preceding it, but still I think for this generation of fan labor issues is an accepted fact.

The playoffs are all the matters. Regular season is just really a prelude to that. Every facet of the league's business is based around the playoffs. You have a playoff and the lockout gets forgotten. Now miss the playoffs that is when damage occurs.

I think they could go down to as little as a 12 game season with every team making the playoffs (basically a big tournament) and the league would be fine.

Yea. This is supposed to be a partnership. What this is right now is a grudge.

Kelly was building legit partnership/friendship with NHL ,, Lindros coup ended that and is reason for mess we have now

The moment Kelly was cast aside and Fehr hired ,, The 2012-13 season effectively died (And likely 2013-14)

The 2013-14 season is not likely dead. Settle down

If this goes to courts you can pretty much wipe it out ,, Also as long as Fehr is head of NHLPA I doubt a deal is reached

The fact he actually has players convinced they can somehow win this fight is proof enough that we wont have NHL back for a longtime

I have been of belief since this began that we would lose 2 seasons ,, I have seen nothing to change my mind on that

Going to court means nothing. If anything it could pressure a deal to be made faster out of court.

Not with NHL/NHLPA

If season is cancelled this is going to court. Fehr has wanted to take a league to courts for sometime now in an anti-trust fight

He found a willing partner in NHLPA to finally achieve it ,, NHLPA lacks the IQ to realize the damage they are doing to there own future/union

We shall see what happens but I am of belief that we are heading for what would be comparable to "Nuclear War" between both sides

NHL will never be same

I don't know why they even wanna let it bleed into losing this season. How about all those guys that have to play in the AHL now like Henrique, and Larsson, and Josefson, and Butler. You gonna tell me they like performing in front of the empty seats right now? And they voted to disclaim interest when they could be in the NHL right now?

None of it makes any sense.

I'm 55% sure they do get a deal done, but that's not exactly much confidence, and too inspiring. I was 99% sure this lockout never would have gotten anywhere near this far.

I still can't understand the disclaimer of interest, and the votes. Only 22 voted no. So the old players, guys who are obligated to play in the AHL like our guys, play in front of the empty seats, and ride the buses 2-3 hours for a game were some of the 706?

Some things in life I don't understand, and that's just one of them. Unless Don has told them they have to miss a year. 2 wiped seasons in 8 years is a joke. This is not an isolated incident.
