More than half the league gets in the playoffs as is

There's nothing youcan really do when it comes to hockey. Bye weeks are mor disadvantageous than anything and you can't do one game playoffs so you have to have a 2^X number of teams in the postseason. 2-4-8-16-32-64, etc. Postseason is a marathon. I wouldn't be opposed to the first round going 5 games instead of 7. Not sure if that would be better or worse though.

Right, 30 teams. Always just assume everyone has 32 b/c it makes it that much easier to break up. But, I really only follow football and hockey league wide, and I'm a big base-2 guy as my job dictates

And yes, base 2 is key unless you do byes, which you can't do in hockey. Like I said, it's this stupid **** that worries me about what's going to happen when we do resume play. What new polygon will be introduced to the ice surface? What's the new OT rules going to be? And fighting? What's that!

Just like I said on the main board. I've been trying to tell everyone one more blowup will probably happen before this is over. It's obvious they're waiting until the drop dead date. And tonight is not that date. Lebrun tweeted how some on both sides are disappointed and everyone is getting all down on the whole thing. The meetings are still going on as we speak.

The problem now is I don't think Fehr's convinced Jan. 11 is the 'true' drop-dead date. Especially since it went to Valentine's Day in 2005.

Eh don't remind me. I can see Fehr playing some games here.

So you have a problem looking at the NFL playoff brackets?

And in the 70's the league seeded everyone by points, but gave the division winners byes so you ended up with 11 seeds getting a bye. The was also 12 out of 18 teams making it. Would be cleaner now.

i said this? (i shot the clerk?) ....

ill say this though. id prefer division first rounds with 16 teams. straight knockout. **** the crap like toronto and buffalo that cant earn a proper playoff spot.

Haha can you imagine us having to play them in a one game playoff? Reimer would probably play the only good game he's played all season just like last year when we had to take 45 shots to score 3 goals!:laugh:

Or better yet imagine a Devils/Panthers rematch. And dumbass Dineen throws in Crapper Clemmer just for that game!

It actually made me a little bit sad that he stepped in, and took most of the workload, and the thank you was a trip back up to Lowell to ride the buses. I didn't hate him while he was here. I still don't hate him. I honestly really don't hate anyone not even Luongo! Obviously there are exceptions like that ******* Tie Domi.

I hated the fact he ran his mouth a lot during the playoffs last year, and pretty much said in so many words he plays better against the Devils. And he's said that a lot. It's nothing personal really, and we got the last laugh. He just seems to have a huge ego. There's also the fact people tried to argue with me he was better than Marty, and that he should have started in the playoffs against Carolina, and all the comments on TG's blog after game 7. Of course this isn't Clemmer's fault. I know a dude who's friends with him, and says he's really cool, and if I met him my opinion would change. Nothing personal, but I just don't like the guy's personality.

I certainly did appreciate him while he was with us. It wasn't until after he left. He also had a really bad game when he first went to Florida where he was legit bad, and he said it was the teams fault. I just haven't liked him post Devils.

They can but they set this deadline so for now they won't file a disclaimer of interest. Still can eventually.

Can they still file the disclaimer after midnight?

No I believe they would have to vote again. It's been brought up over on the main board they didn't file, because Fehr would no longer be able to represent the players in talks with the league. As of now they're still meeting.

It was a meaningless deadline. Everything up to this point has been posturing.

Yikes, just looked at our roster on capgeek figuring a 60m cap. We're in trouble, as are most teams, but we've got about 56m tied up with little by way of offense.

Players are fighting the 60M number for the year after right now, so they've moved on to grander things.

A couple of encouraging details: #NHL has agreed to two compliance buyouts/team in 2013-14; and variance on contracts in 20% range now

2 compliance buyouts is good for the Devils, even though I don't think they'll use any. The more players who are free agents, the more options the Devils have and the less leverage the free agents get. The Devils will be one of the teams with the most flexibility to take advantage of this extra large free agent crop.

I think Volch is getting bought out. Maybe not this year but definitely next year if the cap falls to 60M. You aren't going to be able to trade him and you have your exit strategy now.

his contract is so overblown on this board. it is NOT that bad.

especially in 13/14 when another year is off it.

So you think you can trade a dman during a period when every team gets 2 buyouts? Goodluck. It's not that his contract is bad, well it is, but if you want to clear a dman then this is the easiest way to do it. Also he's a guy on 3rd pairing duty.

Hot damn, he'll have 3 more years after this one at 4.25? The cap's coming to 60M and we're going to hold onto him and our 8 dmen with D being our deepest area right now? Ok, guess no one is getting a raise.

Your #6 d-men in terms of minutes played is earning 4.25M$ per... it's a brutal contract for what he gives us and for the system our new coach wants to implement. We do need guys like Volchenkov on our blueline, just not at that price for the minutes he gives us.

He plays close to 2 less minutes then everyone else. How is that not a sign of what he's worth in the eyes of our coaching staff
