Duncan Keith retiring:

And it sounds like Bill Daly arbitrarily moved the goal posts yet again? From an article online -

Keeping in mind that the chances Duncan Keith actually retires this summer is slim, it’s still baffling that the NHL has decided, for some arbitrary reason, that if the defenseman does hang it up, the Oilers won’t receive a cap credit. As per NHL Deputy commissioner Bill Daly, “No, there is no concept of a ‘cap credit’ for current teams that may lose a player to retirement.”

Just like how adding players on your reserve list, who's seasons had already ended, late in the season used to be OK, for players like Kreider to join the Rags, then Daly moves to actively stop it when it was time for Sorokin (Isles), Kaprizov (Wild), Romanov (Canadians), etc. to come over and they were barred from the play-in and playoffs games.

If Daly takes over for Gary as commish, and I really hope he doesn't, I am sure he has more ideas in store to help his beloved Raggies and screw over teams like the Isles, Oilers, etc.

Pretty different circumstances that you are commingling.

Yes, and that was intentional. I am looking at very different rules/processes/accepted conventions where the league, or specifically Bill Daly, opts to change the way the CBA is interpreted and the goal posts are moved depending on the team.

Even things like compensation for hiring recently-fired front office staff/coaches is seemingly always in flux.

Like a penalty called in the first period, but then not in the third period, because the refs are managing the game and swallowed their whistles.

Guerin not giving a f*** what Talbot's agent says.

Classic, I mean an extension for Calbot would be TWO extended 35er goalies under contract. Seems like Billy is well aware of that and Calbot's agent wants to get an extension while things are ripe.

Good for Guerin. Who the F' is Cam Talbot to be dictating terms? While the goalie market might be "hot" right now, Talbot is a 35-year old, middling option at best.

I always liked Nick Bjugstad. Thought he’d be a big body that would routinely score 25-30 goals a year.

Makes me think of this legendary thread...

Also got to pat myself of the back for this one...crazy to think I posted this 10 years ago o_O

If he didn't have his size and people always thinking he would be something, he would have been out of the league 5 years ago.

Bjugstad got injured playing for the Panthers and he was never the same after that.

Yeah, I agree on that. Just everyone wants the guy to turn the corner, but his size keeps him in the league.

Certain attributes will always give someone a leg up. Left handed pitchers always are in demand.

We got the 2 best and most productive players from the legendary “Lee vs Nelson vs Bjugstad” thread.

Wonder if that’s still available to comment or bump? Would be fun

That was not surprising. But Forsberg was the only name on my break-the-bank-to-get-him-here wish list.

The other remaining UFAs, with the exception of Johnny Gaudreau, I see as B level players. Nobody left is elite or a real difference maker.
