Same here, refs probably missed it.I've seen play blown dead for that exact reason.

Close. But at Saturdays game, the panthers players on the bench have the blades of their sticks protruding out over the boards, over the playing surface. As do most NHL players. In the first, isles shot the puck down in to panthers zone. Puck was airborne. As it zipped by parallel to the panthers bench (it wasn’t going out of play), it tipped off the blade of a panthers player sitting on the bench. The players stick blade was hanging over the boards over the ice. The puck trajectory was changed slightly, and continued in to the panther zone, but there was no whistle and play continued.
Wondering if there should have been a whistle or what the deal is with that.
Refs missed it, then.
When the puck is shot and it makes contact with the gloves or thebody of a player hanging over the players’ bench, or if the puck entersthe players’ bench through an open bench door, the face-off shall takeplace at the nearest face-off spot in the zone from where the puck wasshot, however, if the puck hits an opposing player’s glove or body thatis hanging over the opposing team’s players’ bench or enters theopposing team’s players’ bench through an open bench door, theface-off shall take place in the neutral zone adjacent to the opponent’splayers’ bench.
Trouba with another flying elbow head shot.
While not as egregious as some of his past hits, it’s clearly an intent to injure. The puck is not near him nor the adjacent player and he snaps his elbow down hard on the player’s head.
I’m thinking evil thoughts right now. Hope he gets what’s coming to him some day. He received a meaningless 2 game suspension by DOPS in case you were wondering/
I’ve got you beat. I don’t even give one shit. It’s like the NFL Pro Bowl as far as I’m concerned. Not that I give two shits about the all star game but I just saw that they handpicked 12 players (from only 7 teams) to participate in the skills competition. That alienates fans from 25 teams. LOL. How is that a good thing?

Most fans probably prefer seeing the best skilled players, rather than the Boone Jenner participation trophy selections. It’s that type of thinking that leads to players like Dobson missing out.Not that I give two shits about the all star game but I just saw that they handpicked 12 players (from only 7 teams) to participate in the skills competition. I dunno about that. These are NHL all stars, they ARE the best skilled players. Seeing the same 12 dudes participating in every event doesn't seem too appealing. I liked what they did that one year where each team held their own skills competition and then sent the winners to the All star competition. But then you have guys who show up at all star weekend to participate in one skills event and nothing else. Kinda weird. I think that all players selected to the all star game should participate in at least one skills competition that they're best suited for. I bet there are many fans who would've tuned in to see their team's representative (like Barzal in the fastest skater competition) who will now skip it.Most fans probably prefer seeing the best skilled players, rather than the Boone Jenner participation trophy selections. Something they used to do in the past, and went away from. It's unexplainable, honestly.I dunno about that. These are NHL all stars, they ARE the best skilled players. Perhaps a lot of players didn't like doing it. There was always two guys who were pretty good at the event and one with no chance. Imagine doing the fastest skater and getting smoked by McDavid in front of 18k people. I'd probably nope out too.Something they used to do in the past, and went away from. I'd do it with a hot dog in my free hand and laugh it off.Perhaps a lot of players didn't like doing it. There was always two guys who were pretty good at the event and one with no chance. The players don't even want to go at all for the most part. They'd prefer to just go on vacation instead of schlepping out to the ASG location and doing the media gauntlet for a game that means absolutely nothing to them.Perhaps a lot of players didn't like doing it. Yep. It used to be so cool. I used to collect hockey stickers and the all stars were always those fancy foil shiny ones. I remember thinking, wow, that's when Rick Middleton and Mike Bossy were teammates and played against Gretzky and Dino Ciccarelli!All-Star Games are an outdated concept. It used to be a great way for sports leagues to promote their game and their stars back in the days of limited television coverage. In the year 2024, you have the ability to watch any and all games that you want no matter where you live on the planet, or merely just the highlights if you don't have the time to commit to whole games or money to spend on subscriptions. I just don't see it as interesting or even necessary anymore.
The big difference here is that the players are represented by a union. Wonder what language there is in the contract re: skills competition and all star game participation.I'd do it with a hot dog in my free hand and laugh it off.
I get that players don't want to compete in events they aren't the best at, but then there are plenty that probably don't even want to go to the All-Star game. The game is for the paying fans, so they should just do it, ya know? If you are a salesman selling a shitty vacuum cleaner and are going to do a presentation for a government contract and are competing against Dyson or some shit like that, you are still going to go do it. It's your job.
That's what I mean. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'm sure a guy like Adam Pelech is like, sure I guess I'll do the All-Star game, but I really don't wanna bother doing the shot accuracy competition next to Draisaitl while standing on the side for the rest of the 3 hours. The players don't even want to go at all for the most part. Even with the 3 on 3 tournament guys are giving up their time off to spend ten whole minutes on the ice. I don't blame them for not wanting to go.

It always looks like amateur hour.I can see the value for parents bringing their kids and having them enjoy a fun experience but it's so limiting (and the pace is bad). They really need to revamp it or figure something else out.

You make it seem like it's in Toronto every year. The last time it was there was 25 years ago and the time before that was 1968. Like most everyone who's not from there I can't stand Toronto but they're due their chance like everybody else. They're certainly not being favored (at least in this regard). It’s a bigger thing for the league sponsors. You get all the best in one location at one time.
If the players don’t want to do it, oh well, then don’t. It’s part of marketing, some are fun, some not so fun.
The league has it in Toronto for the sole purpose to assist with juicing revenues, and, the cap for the teams/players.
