I don't defend a ton of the previous regime, but that all sounds pretty dumb to blame them. I don't think it's out of the ordinary for any front office to do what ours did. He both got a PTO and played elsewhere and nobody wanted him. It's not uncommon at all to get a contract out of a PTO, even with another team. Nobody bit. It sucks, but at that age, sometimes you get a massive injury and you're just washed.

Well technically we had a stage two when the team was good for two years in the late 80’s. I was too young to give af personally though I remember fans meeting them at the airport and a parade because they LOST the series to Montreal.
I suppose you have a point there, but they weren’t even good that season, just had a fluke playoff run. They won the division the following year, got swept in round 1 and were garbage until the move.

This doesn't reflect very well on the old regime, not gonna lie... one man's perspective of course. Dude was only 32 years old.

You got traded for a backup goalie because you already weren’t worth your contract BEFORE you blew your ACL out 45 seconds into game 1 you dumb f***.

He’s now hawking #muskgold on twitter, whatever the f*** scam crypto that is. Just the ultimate piece of shit.

Proud to say I was a diehard fan of this hockey team. Wow. Grateful to be cheering for a playoff team in a few days.

Kooch, there's a line between being spicy in the fun way, and being a douchecanoe. This play falls under the latter.

The description in the tweet kind of misrepresents the order of what happened there. Gust didn’t flick the puck into the net until after Kochetkov had taken the unsportsmanlike penalty.

And the unsportsmanlike was more like a match-penalty kick with the blade directly into an opposing player’s knee. It looked like Seney might have said something right before the kick, but that’s no excuse. He should absolutely be suspended for this, and not just a token game or two.

I want Kochetkov to succeed but he gives me Binnington vibes sometimes.

If he could Binnington his way into a Stanley Cup next year that’d be just fine. And he’d only cost $2 mil a year for 3 years so if he’s a total head case sociopath he can walk.

Win/win/profit etc.

I mean... yeah, that would be good.

On the other hand, if Binnington doesn't fluke his way into that Cup, what is his career right now? He's not good enough to be a distraction.

He's not wrong. Most successful business models get rid of baggage and unproductive, stupid employees that do nothing but waste air.
And the unsuccessful businesses think they are following the model and get rid of productive employees they only realize they need after the fact.

I don't see how this suggestion makes sense. You don't want the officials to have to do the job of the linesmen as well. And no, you don't want to just let offsides go until a goal is scored and then review.

Take those two refs off the ice and put them in the press box with a shitload of camera angles and a direct link to the on ice refs.

I thought the idea of the Toronto review room was to eliminate the need for review rooms in every NHL arena.

And that goes away from Rod's idea that two linesmen would still be available to get involved in skirmishes. They can do that from the sidelines; they can't from the press box.

That stat really speaks to the fact that, notwithstanding the one-off 2006 season, this is the best roster in franchise history by a pretty large margin.
5 straight trips to the playoffs certainly helps when we had 5 in the entire history of the Canes (and another 8 if you include the Whalers) before Aho was drafted.

The Hartford Whalers played 51 playoff games in their entire history. The Hurricanes played 78 playoff games before the drought started in 2010.

Aho as a Hurricane has already played 48 as of last night's game.

If anything, this speaks to the fact that for the first time in Canes/Whalers history we have competent management that keeps us competitive and an owner willing to spend to win.
