That leaves Zykov on the 4th line and basically relegated to a PP specialist. If this pre-season has been a precursor for anything we're going to need to start scoring more 5 on 5 goals.
I don't see these lines. Staal will obviously take the difficult defensive assignments. Neither Ferland nor Zykov makes sense on that line. Kuokkanen actually makes more sense. If that is the case, the "last" line could be Zykov/Wallmark/Ferland which would be an offensive line. But that leaves out Martinook and would be six rookies.

So I think this is more tinkering than the almost final draft.

Mcginn, zykov, foegele and ferland are close enough in overall impact that you can allot minutes to the hot hands.

This is an issue with insisting ice time goes to the guys who deserve it. 4 guys, one of whom is guaranteed limited opportunity or a disadvantageous position.

Based on what I've heard, foegele and z have been awesome. And I've never been that impressed with mcginn, honestly. I think he should start on the 4th.

I think RBA is using this preseason the way a preseason *should* be used (and how we've begged coaches to use it in the past). You try stuff, see what happens, and keep it all in the back of your mind for when you need it later. What's the point of using preseason minutes watching guys you know work well together? With two weeks to opening night, I don't think Roddy is done experimenting yet, so I wouldn't put any stock in the current lines. To me, the only concession he's made to putting guys together who he already knows have chemistry, is getting TT back with Aho, since Aho has been underwhelming in his move to center. Hopefully, having TT back will kick Aho into gear and we'll be good to go.

As for McGinn, specifically, I think he's a perfect fourth liner. I think Foegele is the better player and should probably play higher in the lineup. However, we already have three rookies who are locks for the top-9 (Necas, Svechnikov, Zykov). Foegele would obviously make four. And if worse comes to worse and we have to move Aho back to the wing, Wallmark probably centers the third line, making it *five* rookies in the top-9. I just don't think that's workable.

Even if Aho sticks at center, Wallmark has to clear waivers to go down and Foegele doesn't. I'm watching Foegele and I see the same things everybody sees. But at some point it's about numbers. Is it worth keeping Foegele *and* McGinn if it means we lose Wallmark and have four rookies in the top-9? I just don't think the math works, and Foegele, for better or worse, is the odd man out.

I had a dream last night. In this dream we traded Sebastian Aho + Jake Bean for Brent Burns. Dundon had an interview after the trade stating how excited he was to acquire Burns and his patented beard + smile & how they now they now have a super marketable guy for the team.

Our defense is even more stacked now -

Slavin - Burns
de Haan - Hamilton
TVR - Pesce
Faulk
Fleury

Shortly after the trade they were inspired by Mike Commodore’s Afro from 2006 and started selling Brent Burns replica beards in the team store (they were a huge hit with us Canes fans).

The Canes then hosted their yearly charity event. They actually auctioned off the opportunity to shave off Brent Burns beard, and you’d get to keep his beard as a souvenir. I woke up from my dream just as his beard was being auctioned, the bid was up to I think $52,000?!

This was definitely one of the most interesting dreams I’ve ever had.

Will have to see what they have to say.

The cynical side of me says this writer will be more for the rest of the league than Hurricanes fans. As in, The Athletic probably has more people interested in the Canes from the other 30 teams in the league than actual Canes fans so they will cater to the former.

This is for a paid subscription sports website. They aren’t going to “explain hockey”, they are going to cover the team likely at a level that they’ve never really had.

Isn't that what 99.9 said about Mike Maniscalco from Chicago? He pandered so much he ended up working for the team. We'll see, of course, but I'll believe in-depth coverage for hard-core Canes Canes when I see it.

While getting someone local that we already like would be exciting, it also gives you 0 bang for your buck.

I like Cory. I also can read Cory for free any time I want. I’d be ok with Luke, but up until recently I could read him for free as well.

Does everyone here realize that if they’re pushing for someone already established in the market, they’re basically just asking to pay for something they already enjoy for free?
