to be clear, 'f*** the refs' wasn't an instruction... or chloroform.
FYI
Phil Isley, who I think is the head of Centennial Authority was on the radio on my way to the arena talking about renovation plans. Lots to unpack, but I'll hit the big ones.
They want to overhaul the fan experience. Want more gathering locations with bartop seats having bowl access.
They are putting the final figures down now on the long term plan. Part of this is they want a 25+ year agreement that the team stays if they move forward. Long term plan (over the next 5+ years) will include development of the arena parking to a district, but want to focus on the arena itself first.
They want to start work this fall. First steps will be more loading bays and better traffic patterns to get more and better concerts and events into the stadium as soon as possible. After that, they'll work on the fan experience. Will likely see escalators and venue locations removed to allow expansion of concourse and to build larger bar areas that can be used year round. A sports book is planned.
They also want to overhaul the VIP experience with streamlined entrances and moving some of the exclusive clubs from the ends to the middle. Will also see some bars open up in the 300 level that are open to the bowl.
He is minus 3 for the playoffs too.Jesse Pulu is -2 in this series (apparently). That is all kinds of impressive if true.
I know towel design is just about THE most petty thing to complain about, but there actually is something pretty cheap about not having any sort of difference from one game to the next. At first it was disappointing that they went with the lame "Never Compromise" thing on every single game, but at least they were changing the "Round 1 Game X" each time. Now, it's literally the same thing every single time. Unless you are a plumber or mechanic, there's no point continuing to stack up a pile of them.
It's undoubtedly a cost savings at some level, but just comes off as crazy cheap to the point of downright penny-pinching.
Man, I'm pulling for Jesse. I really am but me and my kid watch him specifically when he gets involved in a play and very rarely does something impactful or positive come out of his involvement in said play. So strange. When it comes to the playoffs I tend to worry about the counting stats less. Not that they're completely unimportant but small sample sizes and the playoffs are so different and whatnot. I usually try to judge a player based on wins I can remember them contributing to.
Now, it's easy for the majority of the team to think of a game or two at least they contributed to a win. Pulju is harder, but he was good on the boards for the opening goal last night. And I think Stastny mentioned (I'm going to paraphrase) that JP's lack of hockey sense lead to Stastny just saying f*** it and shooting in the OT winner against the Isles. Okay, that one may be a stretch. But that board work last night tho.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.
I get that it is incredibly a non-issue in the grand scheme of things- but wouldn't it also be a really easy fix to just put the goddamned game#, the opposing team, and maybe even the date? I can't imagine it would cost anything more than a negligible amount, FFS. And they used to do it.
I wonder what other teams do. If they all give this lackluster level of effort, then fine I guess. But if everyone else puts details and such on theirs, then the Canes FO is jacked up.
If you actually read some of the discussion on that tweet- no, it's not incredibly low effort. It's actually a lot of effort to get the towels printed and distributed around the arena on short notice, and in that case, they didn't know if they needed them printed for a game 7 or a round 2 game 1. It's not an impossible ask, but the idea is to not have crates of unusable towels sitting around that you can't even sell to stuff car seats.I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Seriously, it's a f***ing towel. Do you really need to have an indexed collection?
Yeah, I do NEED it. Because I have a fancy display case for them. One that I leave blowout wins to make sure I get home early to stock. If you actually read some of the discussion on that tweet- no, it's not incredibly low effort. Ooops...we've been outed.
Our fanbase has been mixing it up with PK, Pete and others all week.
One of the downsides of more common areas is more empty seats in the stands during a gameFYI

One way to address this is to bring back standing room tickets. $50 admission to a lower bowl common area and $20 admission to an upper bowl one would sell like hotcakes, I suspect. Good avenue for college promos and the like as well. You're not pulling people out of their seats who want the standard in seat experience (which is most people) you're adding a larger crowd overall. One of the downsides of more common areas is more empty seats in the stands during a game

What I took away from it is that, yes, they will be relocated from where they are now. Its not that they're going away, but the space where the currently are would be better used for concourse expansion than what we have.Trying to wrap my head around this. Do they mean relocating the escalators elsewhere in the building? It seems like they have to go somewhere. Year round bar areas? What does that mean?

Also, year round bars being places where you can come even when there aren't events going on in the arena. Where you could come and watch the Canes play during a road game, and possibly host the playoff road game parties. Basically, an initial step to get people thinking to come to the arena when there isn't an event before they build the apartments and hotels that would provide the people to actually be there most nights.
