the last time that happened the team was deemed to have "too many puckmovers" due to making the conference finals and the help of several gritty vets was needed to resume the tanking.

2.32 ga/gm was by far the best defensive team in the league 2009. 2.7 top 10. Game has certainly changed.

Will jfaulko be the best defenseman in hcanes history? If he works out his consistency issues, I think he will be, unless Fleury(or Hanifin if God wills it) makes a huge difference in the next couple years.

Considering our PK is #3 league-wide (and #2 in that Top-10 list) and our SA/G is #7 (and #3 in that Top-10 list), I'd say we have a top-10 defensive team.

Hell, an argument could be made for Top 5.

Disagree. There is well enough on this team to put together a good PP unit. Semin has always been a better playmaker than shooter. You have Lindholm who could excel in feeding the puck, I don't know about Nestrasil but he seems likely. You have Skinner lurking, JStaal and Eric in front. There's plenty of talent there to score a PP goal that doesn't pinball from the point or bounce in off an opposing Dman.

Pretty goals are few and far between when there is a lack of creativity and confidence from the players.

But with Semin hurt though that's the big thing, isn't it? Our alternative as the playmaker is a 19 year old. I mean, getting Marner as an 18 year old doesn't make our problem of having a 19 (will be 20) as our best playmaking option on the PP go away, but it at least gives us some options and depth to get it going. #1 choice is always going to be a healthy Semin.

Nestrasil reminds me of Vasicek a bit for some reason, just with a lot better skating. Not a bad playmaker but not a difference maker in that regard like Marner could end up being.

We definitely have the talent to score the goals, I just question whether or not some of the guys are all that adept at seeing possible passing and shooting lanes develop, which makes getting them even more likely. Semin (when he's on and healthy) definitely does that, Lindholm can be that guy but not sure he is yet, but beyond them?

Yeah I'm not saying that the team doesn't need more talent, I was just pointing out that there is enough there to form a good PP unit if they were allowed to play their game instead of over thinking every pass and route.

Peters may turn out to be Adam Oates 2. or RB.?

That doesn't make sense. Systems are created and put into place so players don't have to think about what they are about to do. At ES if you're in trouble on the boards you can either kick it up to the defensemen or fling it around the net to the waiting forward. You don't have to look, or think.

So if the players are overthinking it, that probably means they are being allowed to play their game. When I watch Semin on the PP, him trying to stickhandle through two defenders and attempting a cross-ice pass rather than the easy option certainly is not part of the system.

Staal was being 2nd half/playoff Staal the whole year and had two above average linemates for the first time since probably 2006ish.

Semin was playing healthy and in a contract year after signing for a small 1 yr/ $5M the year before.

Tlusty was playing about the same as now but with two all star linemates who opened up tons of space, and as a result his shooting percentage was way higher than average.

Since then everyone pretty much regressed to their career average, with Semin being drastically worse, hopefully because of his wrist.
