Per Wheeler in the Athletic:

Honestly we don’t even need an Eichel level 2C or anything we could legit get by with like a 39 year old Michal Handzus ala Chicago in 2015

as long as it isn’t Ryan Strome

we don’t need to target a 60+ point guy a solid ~40ish point guy who can play a good two way game would suffice with our talent at wing.

God that’s ugly. We need a much better 3RW and 2C if we want to compete.

We're another season away from competing, and we don't know what Gauthier is going to be yet.

We can look to upgrade Strome after next year potentially.

Craziness

Zib, Panarin, Laf, Kakko, Shesty: franchise potential/ damn near

Kreider, Buch, Kravstov, Chytil: top 6 potential

TDA, Fox, Trouba: Stupid amount of talent

Gauthier, Lindgren, Barron, Henriksson, Robertson, Jones, Lias, Pajuniemi, Reunanen, Wall: Lots of upside

Nils, K'Andre: Completely stupid amounts of upside

This is gonna be a hell of a ride

We are fully loaded. We do need to find a 2C and 1LD... this might be the time to start cashing in some chips to get us those pieces. Of course they need to be cost controlled for awhile otherwise what's the point? But today our team took a massive leap forward into dreaming of at least one Cup, maybe more. And I'm excited to see how JD pushes this forward now that we have all this talent.

Maybe bundle him with Georgiev for Teravainen or Ehlers? That would really help our right side.

It's amazing the level of roster and depth transformation this organization has made in such a short time. It was needed. It hurt texting the guts out of this franchise after it came so close and gave us so much success without winning it all. But DAMN, we are lined up so nicely now...

Luck played into it as well, we've moved up 2 years in a row and the circumstances this year were unprecedented.

I 50000000% supported doing this then and that belief has only been solidified as time has gone on.

WE deserve this after all the shit this franchise has put us through.

If we give Strome a one year deal we could probably get a pretty good return for him at the upcoming deadline. That will give us some more time to see how Chytil is developing and where he feels most comfortable.

Hahaha. And that'll be fine too. Like I said, I'm 50/50.

But, boy, folks, if they do decide to keep the pick and draft him... I wonder how many appreciate what this may mean for other roster favorites...?

Those're your guaranteed players. And while there are plenty of guys who may already be in the org who are in consideration to fill some of those open slots (e.g. a potentially re-signed Fast, Lemieux, Gauthier, etc.), pretty much everyone – headlined by ADA, Strome, and Buch – would be in play to fill the blanks (in particular 2C and 1LD).

That’s tricky: I feel like we’re potentially giving up value by dealing an impending FA. Maybe a three-year deal at about $4MM can get it done — but more than that would be kryptonite for most suitors I think.

I actually think Laf is the perfect player to get someone like Gauthier going.

And 2C doesn't need to be a star. Panarin is virtually playing the role of what a tradtional C would be playing.

This is how the Hawks did it via Kane.
Those are really good points.

Panarin xxx Kakko
Laf Zib Buch
Kreider Chytil Kravstov
Lemieux Barron Gauthier

Kreider being such a strong possession player could do a lot for that 3rd line, Howden out of there, Fast walks for cap reasons, find a good 2 way center to play with Panarin. Strome was fine at getting points with Panarin, but he offered nothing defensively and his possession game is less than ideal.

I’m confused, how is Chytil not our solution as a 2C?
He’s still essentially a child and could be 2-3 years from being a quality 2C. The dude’s 20 years old and we all knew he was raw coming in and still is

a stopgap in the meantime would be ideal while Chytil plays 3C, though plenty of people are still trying to put him at wing.

I know he likely wouldn't be the player he's turning out to be if he'd stayed here, but having J T Miller in that #2 centre spot with Laf on the way would look pretty damn good...

In fairness, if the conversation takes place, it'll be initiated on Ottawa's end.

There was grumbling over the last few weeks that whoever won the lottery should expect a call from The Sens and that they would be aggressive in their offers.

Now, what does aggressive mean? That's somewhat unknown. But I would be shocked if these two teams didn't at least chat. There's history there. There's a reason to talk. And there's too many people commenting about Ottawa's potential mindset for it not to be a thing.

3 OA, Brady T, and a sweetener (later 1st or a B++ prospect) is where the conversation starts.

Maybe I’m misremembering — is Strome a UFA this summer? I thought he had one year left.

I don’t think Chytil is much more than a year out from stepping in as a low end 2C and developing from there.

I think we can pretty much take 80 percent of the posts about Strome and just insert Miller right into them if he were still here, and playing center on top of that.

Can we still trade Kreider? Teams were willing to trade a lot for him at the deadline. I am sure teams would still be interested in a signed Kreider.

What Center can we get if we trade Kreider and CAR’s 1st round pick?
