I know he's probably not ready to be a pro yet, but you can't tell me this psycho wouldn't be better out there than 3 or 4 other forwards in the bottom 6 right now... Especially in a b2b with this dirty Washington team.
Or, counterpoint, the year you remember him being strong and tenacious, he shot 20% and that does a hell of a thing to perception. The Mika vegan schtick was obviously just an HF in-joke but, boy has it fit more and more each year. He was never a real big hitter but 3-4 years ago he looked like prime Ovie-lite. Big guy, good speed, knew how to use the body, shot was on point and he was tenacious. That player is completely gone. He is a finesse softy with a great shot that runs hot and cold. He was a beast, now he’s a lamb.

I'm secretly Bill PidtoLiterally on 150 seconds after this post
he used to be relentless on the forecheck and attacking the puck. He used to use his wrist shot. He's just not that guy anymoreOr, counterpoint, the year you remember him being strong and tenacious, he shot 20% and that does a hell of a thing to perception.
Absolutely. And it can't stop there (to be true contenders against the pack). We need smarter D, and Mika and Kreider to play 5v5. It can't just be mercs coming in, the unmoveables NEED to play better. I kind of don't care about the goalie situation. Goalies are crap everywhere around the league. They need a guy like a Boone Jenner. Someone who has above average speed, isn’t a black hole offensively, and can be a rat when you need them too.
Another poor man’s Trocheck would do wonders up front. Hell cloning Cuylle or Vesey would also help. There’s too much deadweight and too much vanilla up front.

Between periods???So....I'm standing up between the periods and a thick Brooklyn accent from 2 rows behind me yells "Hey Messier (wearing my 11 jersey) ... you wanna sit down?"
This sums it up completely...Eh, he had a couple of years where he looked like that player, outside of the massive goal pace he had the one year. Mika used to be a physical player. He was also listed at like 225lbs several years back and now he’s listed at 201. He is goose down soft now.
If he was that guy, it was for one season, which means he wasn't that guy.he used to be relentless on the forecheck and attacking the puck. He used to use his wrist shot. He's just not that guy anymore
This is the NHL. All of these excuses are nonsense...I don't need anyone of them to be bruisers, but constant stickchecking usually leads to the puck behind our goalie.Mika's never been that kind of player, Fox better not engage and Kreids had a rib removed already.
Will not go near a puck battle at all. Second goal is perfect example. No way Lafreniere gets that chance with Mika and Kreider. Trocheck won the battle along the high boards taking out two caps to let Schneider get the puck to Laf in front alone.Eh, he had a couple of years where he looked like that player, outside of the massive goal pace he had the one year. Recently at concert, i was yelled at for standing up in the lodge seating area. Had first row, elevated lodge, and stood up when the headline came on. That didn't go over well for the seated crowd behind me.Between periods???
This is why I always love to sit in the back row. People have gotten so touchy about standing over the years.
He was that guy since he got here. He changed sometime after Covid... model his game more like bad-Panarin. He needs to turn the dial back a bit to his old self.If he was that guy, it was for one season, which means he wasn't that guy.
