I think the 4th line is the worst at protecting a lead...
The other 3 lines have enough offensive weight to bury a team in their own defensive zone.
The 4th is great at forechecking but can't pin a team and can easily get stuck in our defensive zone.
Compared to the other lines, especially the wingers, I disagree. Would you rather have Motte and Vesey being in the right position, willing to take a check to get the puck out of the zone or Kane/Panarin/Kreider? It's not even close.

The matchup I was dreading all season, not just because of the makeup of both teams but losing to this team would be hard to stomach. Probably were going to have to go through them one round or another though so maybe we surprise and make it through.
I simply don't get why it would be a "surprise". If not anything it would be a Devil's fan "surprise" if they were to beat us. They are NOT God's gift to the NHL, and seriously do NOT have a clue about PO hockey. I just don't get the FEAR and NEGATIVE thoughts. Jeez, do I have to cover for all you all?

I’m kind of surprised at how scared some of us are of the Devils. Personally I think NYR in 6 is the safe bet. The Devils have a good fast team that I haven’t seen play real playoff style hockey at all this year. This isn’t the 80’s and they aren’t the Oilers. They are not going to win in the playoffs playing pond hockey like they did all season and they haven’t shown an ability to win playing anything else. This team knows what it has to do to win, they will either do it and win, or they won’t and they will lose. And that goes for any team they would have faced. I think they showed in last season’s playoffs that they will do what they need to. The Devils have showed ZERO. Lets see what they’ve got!
I pretty much said the same my last post. Crazzzzy isn't it? And believe its not even a reverse jinx kind of thing. It's plain old negativity.

the coaching staff should be watching and showing video of the lightning/panthers series when the lightning swept them last year. andrew brunette was the coach and it certainly looks like the devils are emulating the playing style of those panthers. devils will not go far this year, but thats not to say they wont beat the rangers. but whatever tampa did in that series, rangers should do the same.

Panarin has been playing the best defensive hockey of his career.
Kreider is still above average defensively and during our runs lately has been more aggressive.
Kane we'll see.

Voted Rangers in 6 but could easily swing the other way. The Devils being “soft” is overrated, they have speed and can make our inept puck moving D corp pay

Will be waiting to see if guys like Kane and Kreider turn it on for the playoffs. Especially Kane.
If Kane has any hopes of being here next year, he better show something. I mean, we know he needs surgery and there's talk of him getting every painkiller imaginable so that he could be better, but he's literally been invisible for the most part. Put up or go home. Even at a discount or LTIR.
Watch how Panarin lights it up, he KNOWS he screwed up last year. Notice how he's been shooting a LOT more? Just watch.

I do think Bread knows that another performance in last year lands him on the list of guys that may draw some ire/looks to get moved if we find ourselves in a hole or position that it makes sense. His shot is pretty good and hope he is just a little more selfish in the G department.

Kane I really hope plays a little better. If he truly can't due to the hip then the only thing I want him back for next year is near minimum on show me.

People are acting like the Devils destroyed the Rangers during the regular season by some of these comments. The 4 games were all close. Devils won 5-3 which was a 1 goal game with an empty netter, Rangers won 4-3 in OT, Devils won 4-3 in OT, Devils won 2-1 and Rangers nearly tied it in last minute. Every game was close and every game was a battle so please stop with the "we have no chance" bullshit. We can win this series.

Panarin plays defense very sporadically. I was at the Devils/Rangers game in Newark recently and he played his best game defensively and even delivered a check. But that lasted about a period and a half. That was the most I saw him play defense in a game this year. Did you see that great change he made on Monday in OT?
Kreider is NOT above average defensively. He loses his man at the point consistently. He doesn't skate hard unless he can get a breakaway and when he can't he slows up. Plus his hockey IQ is -5. And the only reason he plays shorthanded is to put pressure on the other team with the chance he might get a breakaway.
Kane - we will see. He's similar to Panarin. When he "wants" to do it, he can play defense but neither one will do it consistently.

Playoff experience matters. The Rangers were in a good spot last season since the majority of the roster did have that experience, just that a few were missing it. The Rangers defense was the inexperienced ones in that, although Fox and Lindgren got 3 games in the bubble playoffs, but that's not really the same.

In this instance, it is NJ's top forwards that lack it. They can talk about Meier having it from San Jose, Tatar with his various teams, and Palat of course with Tampa, but when you have 6 playoff games total from 4 of your top 6, it's going to be interesting how they move through a series for the 1st time.

Game 1 will be very interesting. Looking back at last season, the Rangers came out like gangbusters, but really slowed down as the game went along (going 3 OTs didn't help). If you survive that big push in the 1st, I think they'll take Game 1.

Miller is the Rangers biggest X-Factor. He was a beast in the playoffs and will need to get back to that level for them to win this series. Posted it in the main boards, but I think this is a vintage Tarasenko series. Even last night he was hitting dudes. I think he's really excited, he wanted out of St. Louis for a few years now. I also expect playoff Kreider. He's been 75%ing it for a few weeks. This series is also why we got Trocheck. Strome would be eaten alive by Hughes/Hischier

And while NJ has a sizable defense, they are not overly physical, which I think bodes well for Panarin and Kane. The question will be is can you drag a few of those guys into playing that way, and not how they have all season.

Of course we can win, but it would be an upset. I don't think the Devils are good enough to win the cup, but they are more than good enough to beat the Rangers.

My lord, what a bunch of weak-minded, wobbly-kneed scaredy cats some of you are. The Rangers are deeper, have more experience, more star power, and a huge edge in the net and you guys are quaking in your Spider Man Underoos over little Jackie Hughes and co? Suck it up, guys. They're from Jersey, they ski in their jeans! Rangers in 6.

Measuring a team's regular season head-to-head is of extremely limited use to make future predictions about the playoffs on. There's a lot of moving parts that don't get sucked up by that data

1 Rangers fan says Trouba should crush them midgets
1 Devils fan sees that single post and says entire Rangers board are all gunning for injuries
1 Rangers fan sees that single post and says entire Devils board is painting us in a broad stroke boohoo.

Can't make this up.
I’ll be a 2nd person to say I hope Trouba crushes those midgets

Don’t even need to go that far back because that’s exactly how the Bolts played and whooped the Devils this season. In fact, I’d say just play exactly as nasty as they did against the Bolts the other week.

This is our first series against the Devils since I’ve been a fan, but watching old footage of Rangers vs Devils man I wish we had a true Avery type agitator. Like a Brendan Lemieux. I hope there’s hatred in this series but I do think our roster makeup is a bit vanilla personality wise and I don’t know how much they’ll try to get under the Devils skin

Oh bullshit that it's an "upset". This is a 50/50 series at worst from the Rangers perspective. Given their personnel, goaltending and experience edges the Rangers should actually be a mild favorite IMHO. Don't know how Vegas sees it, haven't looked at any odds.
