Yeah but sometimes it DOES work.

You know what never works? Trying to "go for it" when you're in a hopeless situation. Thats what the dark ages were.
Yeah, TWICE, in the last fifteen years!
...and “Going for it” is not a hopeless situation. Making the playoffs is a prudent business model and has helped catapult this franchise to the most valuable in the sport.

Actually, history proves that the vast majority of the time, it doesn’t work. For every ****tsburg, you have Arizona, Carolina, the Piles etc...
Almost every single current cup contender went through a time of sucking to be where they currently are.
I'd rather take those chances then be stuck in Mediocrity the next five years

And the Jesper Fast hype lately? This guy has been TERRIBLE since he came back from injury absolutely TERRIBLE.

The only guy worse? Mats Zuccarello. Please trade this kid this week cannot be brought back. He’s dogged it ever since he was given that A.

Twice?

While I wouldn't consider LA a "tank" team, they did have several top 10 selections (Hickey, which they f***ed up, Doughty, which they didn't and Schenn, who they moved for Richards.)

Seeing as how those 2 teams (and LA) are responsible for every single cup except 1 since 2009 doesn't exactly help your argument.

Boston is the lone team who was able to win something with out hanging at the bottom of the Standings. f*** even the Hurricanes picked in the top 5 3 years in a row prior to 2006.

This has been his worst stretch as a Ranger probably. I'm still a Fast guy. I think you need guys like that in your bottom 6 and his cap hit is reasonable.

And how many teams were uncompetitive for years after tanking and won nothing?

Are you serious? Guys had what one or two bad games.. see the rest of this roster he does what hes suppose to do for a bottom six guy what do you want him scoring 40 points a season. thats not what he is here for and hes one of our best PK guys...

**** AV. you don't just get to blame your goalies every ****ing team you go to you pos
The irony of AV blaming his goalies is almost too much to handle.

He’s been blessed with almost his entire coaching career having literally the two best goalies post 05 lockout as his two starters. It’s insane. Nobody has been more fortunate than AV with regards to goaltending and he still blames it. Unreal.

Couldn’t possibly be anything he’s doing. Nope. He’s perfect.

It has worked more than twice
Pittsburgh: Malkin 2nd, Crosby 1st
Washington: Ovi 1st, Backstrom 4th
Tampa: Stamkos 1st, Hedman 2nd
LA: Kopitar 11th, Doughty 2nd
Jets: Scheifele 7th, Ehlers 9th, Laine 2nd
Leafs: Reily 5th, Nylander 8th, Marner 4th, Matthews 1st
Predators: Forsberg was acquired in a deal where they were a selling team, Jones 4th (traded him for one of their best players)
Chicago: Toews 3rd, Kane 1st

There's more to building a team but sucking and getting good players is at the foundation of it

A bunch. I'm not arguing that its a bullet proof plan. But it has a MUCH higher rate of success than to keep going for it when you're where the Rangers are right now (where the success rate is 0%)

Lets not try to compare the Rangers to the Panthers or Coyotes though. Being a big market team, they're going to always be a hot spot for UFA's. As long as they don't f*** up their draft picks, it won't take too long for them to be competitive again.

Since the lockout, the Wings, Ducks, and Bruins won without bottoming out. The Bruins did have Seguin but he was a rookie. The Rangers and Sharks could have easily won with a couple of bounces. Neither team bottomed out.

Your argument is if you don’t win the Stanley cup you are mediocre and should tank!

But the Bruins did bottom out from 2006-2007 after trading Thorton and in 2006 is when the Bruins choose Kessel Bergeron (Meant Lucic my bad) and Marchand with two of those guys becoming foundations in their cup runs
As for Detroit, lucking into Zetterberg and Datsyuk is nearly impossible especially nowadays with how much more scouting is done
