I thought McDonagh sucked tonight :dunno:

I've been McDonagh's biggest defender all year.

Tonight, he made two really flashy offensive plays and spent the rest of the game doing **** all in his own zone while Boston fired pucks at Hank of a machine gun.

The availability heuristic is strong in this thread.

Don't agree. I thought he played well and that pass that sprung Miller was a thing of beauty.

Why Buch wasn’t out there and Desharnais was is ****ing maddening.
I mostly come to this site for news I don't catch on twitter and never post but this post got me i get criticising the team and AV (who drives me to drink often) but minutes after a huge win taking four points on a tough back to back and this what you have to offer?? crazy how about enjoying a win for a god damn minute jesus

Was that even strength or when he was defending on the PK also?

Even strength.

Nash is a fantastic penalty killer, and that's where the reputation comes from, but he's smelly compost defensively at even strength. So is Grabner. So was Haglein.

In fact, like half of the top penalty killers in the league suck defnesively at even strength. It's like, not the same thing.

Nash on-ice

Shots for the Rangers: 4

Shots for Boston: 21

:dunno:
You're basing his effectiveness entirely on shots...he creates turnovers all the time and has puck possession in the offensive zone, creates scoring chances, he did all of that tonight. And most of those Boston shots were because Nash is a penalty killer because he's so goddamn good and Boston had like 4 PP's

Bill Nye is a man of science.

He would agree with me on not using one play to define a sample of hundreds of plays.

For me it wasn't only the flashy plays in the o-zone. He made some crucial defensive plays blocking shots and disrupting passing lanes with his stick.

That's at even strength.

I like Rick Nash, and he does generate chances very well, but defending at even strength is not a strength of his.

I thought he played well overall.

So him being on the ice every single time we were buried in our zone leading to a penalty was by accident?

Every single time? Did you count them because I didn't. I never noticed him in a negative way TBH. If I did I would say so. I did notice some nice passes and good PK.

You know who was actually really good tonight? Lazy floater Chris Kreider.

Stupid Kevin Hayes and AHL defensively Kevin Shattenkirk were also really solid.

We're highlight-recalling again.

Look, here is my take on it. The advance stats might give the clear edge to Holden but McD actively broke up and prevented several great scoring chances for the other team as well as being directly involved in the offence.

Btw, Hank is .930 over his last 10 games AND he is well on his way to another 30 win season.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets Vezina consideration IF he keeps this level of play up.
