Many years back Dominic Moore in his first training camp kind of clocked Mark Messier. Shit happens. There's nothing by the way in Keane's history of his being a dirty player and I'm sure that whatever happened with Mika that Keane is not happy with himself so IMO let him be and hope that Mika's not seriously hurt.

I also wonder if they are especially tight lipped this year to give the new coaching staff (and the players, especially the prospects, a little breathing room--they'll have to face all the vultures soon enough!:biglaugh:
When they face the Trautwig, it'll all be over :D

It was a 1-on-1 drill with Keane

Don't think it would be something serious, but you never know...

Thanks for clarifying. I should have clarified that it's serious moreso because of his history with head trauma moreso than the hit's violence.

Any Mika injury makes me think a Hayes extension comes into serious consideration.

It would probably have to get serious consideration, yes.. first line centers are, as we know, difficult to get a hold of (unless you have 10 mill to spare).. and with our center depth being fairly shallow as it is (i know we have many who can play center, but that doesn't translate into them being good NHL centers at this stage in their career, thinking primarily of Andersson and Chytil).. Hayes is our only other "guaranteed top 9 center". The closest to that would probably be Namestnikov ? (or am i forgetting someone ?).

Well.. in any case, fingers crossed for Mika only being taken off the ice as a precaution.

Any update will probably be after practice. Third group goes on now, right? So likely another hour.

Hockey is a physical sport. This stuff happens. I’m sure Keane wasn’t trying to hit him in the head. And for all we know it’s just precautionsry

And we have a head coach who is preaching the importance of winning one on one battles...and going through players if you can't go around them. Stuff happens. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

The Rangers are the only team in the league without a star player. Hank was a star player of course but not at 36. Let that sink in. Many teams have multiple. Rangers don’t have one. This team NEEDS to finish bottom 5.

Having multiple star players doesn't guarantee success.

Look at the Sharks and Stars. Plenty of stR players on those teams.

They haven't been that much more successful than the Rangers if you're looking over the last decade.

Duh, Eric Lindros was one of the softest players ever.

So were the likes of Dan Carcillo, Scott Stevens, Nick Boynton and a host of others.

Nick Boynton is an absolute mess. Just saying. Lindros wasn't the same player after the Flyers traded him to us--that's not to say he wasn't physical at all but his physical presence was toned down a lot by the time he retired. Keith Primeau said that when the doctor told him that he wouldn't allow him to play any more that he was relieved. His last concussion had really put him on his ass--constant headaches and nausea, couldn't bear to be in a lighted room. He was a big physical monster--not all that different from Lindros just not quite as good.

Multiple head injuries is a serious thing and it's why I think that Rick Nash decided to call it quits--because he could still be a good player but he doesn't want another concussion.

The Stars flat out have been less successful. As have other talent rich teams.

They've been basically on par with the Sharks minus the epic playoff collapses and first round exits after fantastic regular seasons.

No doubt, but those guys were all far from soft players. Lindros in his prime was one of the most terrifying players to ever step foot on the ice.

Claiming that a player is soft because he got his bell rung in a contact sport is like calling someone slow for finishing 5th in the 100m during the olympics.

It doesn't guarantee success...but it can go a long way towards achieving it.

Not sure if Moore is the best person to use as an example, he was a dirty player at times in his career.
