The Saints became my "other team" in college, back when they were the Aints. They have been a balm to my soul during the era of He Who Shall Not Be Named - But If Were Named, It Would Be Spelled "Mother-F***er."
So I can tell you that we can all be grateful that our QB is not Derek Carr.
So there's that.

Feels real good to be 2-0.

The pessimist in me says they needed comebacks against two teams who were two of only a handful of teams with less projected wins than Washington at the beginning of the season so I don't know how impressed we should be but hey, it's a lot better than losing them. And I am a bit terrified of what the Bills offense can do to this secondary next week if Washington comes out flat like they did yesterday.

But f*** it, the pessimism can wait until they really earn it.
Feel the same way. They came so close to giving away both those games in just the way they would under Lil Danny’s reign of error . . . . But somehow they didn’t both times. I mean how many times did Lil Danny’s teams lose to the Lions or Arizona or some other perennially failing team by just handing the game to the opponent. As close as they came to doing that in these first 2 games - they didn’t actually do it. That’s . . . maybe . . . something.

Holcomb w the nice FF last night in 4th quarter. Interesting to compare him to Cody Barton at seasons end. Seem like identical players.

edit - Barton with a team low PFF of 42. 2 weeks in a row hes been the lowest graded skin.

Barton has been awful. There are at least 10 clips of him being blocked out of the screen. Hopefully it's just growing pains.

On the other hand, Davis has made a couple of really nice plays. His athleticism was on full display on Sunday. Dude has crazy closing speed.

So….. their questionable OL and questionable LB “situations” coming into the season are still very much “questionable” (at best).

Shocker, everyone?

When Ron gets canned, whomever takes over this roster and coaching duties may be handed a pretty nice machine.

All they need to do is solve the DE “who to keep” conundrum for next year, and then spend all resources on OL. Next on LB, then a smattering on TE.

Whoever it is will have >$80M to spend, so there will be no excuse to put a stout OL in front of Slingin' Sammy. Yes, I am using that term and yes I know where it originates :D

I’m “hoping” that the team can somehow, someway, manage to keep both 90 & 99, as I feel like they are all about to pop (w 93 & 94). Spend 40m a year to do it? (Next season would be lower, spread that cap out). Add Curl at 10m.

Then 30m on OL and LB (and whichever you don’t spend on, you DRAFT on……or vice versa).

Their roster is really close. It just seems to be

Jamin Davis was considered a reach and a bust. He’s played very well this season and his strip and fumble recovery changed the tide of the game Sunday. So I’d say 1 LB spot is in question.

They're not cutting the Cheese? When he rolls one vs Bills and they lose because of it, Josh should fire Ron the same way Danny fired Norv.

Davis was a reach, but anyone with a brain should have known he was a long term project, not someone who was going to have a big rookie year. He barely played in college, he lacked lots of experience. But he's learning to just play and not think, so now his athletic skills can take over. Still a reach (could have had him in the 2nd) but maybe not a bust anymore. If he stays out of jail for effs sake.

Yeah — that’s if you assume you only really need 2 good LB’s. Which is probably a stretch. Injuries and also other defensive “alignments” will be needed.

I think one more true starter at LB (Barton is at best a wait and see), and then a 3rd/4th rounder on one. Maybe Hudson can continue to grow.

Mayo has to go, he’s on the downhill side and his uphill side wasn’t even good.

It’s also important to note the traditional LB may be being phased out. The Buffalo nickel and more hybrid LB/S type players is the rage now. DC plays with 2 LBs on the field at most and then in dime or nickel formations that hybrid player, Curl or Forrest or Quan Martin, is playing alongside Davis or in the middle of the field with the range to move sideline to sideline.

Quan Martin’s role at camp:
Well, first I’ll say, his role really isn’t defined. Yes, we’ve had him working at a couple of spots, primarily not just the one spot, you know, but he’s been doing some stuff with the nickel/buffalo position. He does some stuff at the safety spot. So he’s continuing to work, continuing to get those opportunities.
Um, yeah, but I wouldn’t say we’ve defined it and said, this is who you are and stay there, because he does work with the different groups and you see him with the ones and the twos, and you’ve seen him also with some of the three work as well.
We’re just trying to get him as much work as we can. At the same time, we have a core of guys that we’re trying to get him assimilated to so that he’s now part of that group of guys.

Yes. I knew all of this. It still isn’t smart to have ONE good LB. Which is where they are. As I said, they need at least TWO good ones. The rest can be younglings trying to figure their shit out (or a decent vet looking to enjoy a good team).

Well it would appear JDR disagrees because this is the 2nd year they’ve gone this route.

Still bugs me that they used their second round selection on a guy that has no defined position when they had glaring needs at other positions like OL and TE. Could also be why Martin seemed to have a very quiet preseason.
