It's impossible to say who was more important, but just to play devil's advocate...

The year after Brady left the Patriots, the Patriots missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008, when Brady was injured in game 1 and missed the rest of the season. That year, Brady won the Super Bowl with a team that had missed the playoffs the prior year.

Belichick's track record without Brady has been unremarkable. Both before and after Brady. On one hand you have the best quarterback to ever play the game, and on the other hand you have a coach whose only real accomplishments were when he had the best quarterback to ever play the game...
BBs teams held the greatest show on turf to 17 points and the LA Rams to 3 points in the SB. Brady didn’t play defense last I checked. Brady helped but BB wasn’t just riding Brady’s coat tails.

Im relieved we arent going to have to pay Sweat or Chase 25M plus.

They are good players but not top 5 at their position. They are in the 10-20 ranking imo, not top 10.

Perhaps 25M is what tier 2 DE will be getting in the near future (Bosa is 35M plus), but Im glad we arent overpaying.

I think the Commanders got it right.

IMO Payne and Allen are great d-linemen and whomever lines up next to them is going to benefit from that.

Accordingly, I predict Toohill will have a nice season the rest of the way out.

Definitely bummed about the return for Young, but doesn’t that SF 3rd at least still slot higher than a compensatory pick in the same round?

my understanding is that since they didnt exercise the 5th year option, they didnt maximize the time of service he could of had w us ... no comp pick.

Plus we'd probably add 1 big contract in FA to offset whatever Chase would get.

Plus this is a 2024 3rd comp vs a 2025 comp.

-------------

If Eric B or Mayhew get hired as HC or GM to new team = comp pick possible

That 2008 Pats team went 10-5 without Brady with the great Matt Cassel at QB. Sure they ended up missing the playoffs with an 11-5 record but that is an example of in his prime Belichick doing reasonably well without Brady.

Sports talking head said BB approach would not have worked if the top dog Brady didnt buy into 100%. Having Brady be a super star and buying in ... BB and Brady set and reinforced the standard.

Symbiotic relationship imo.

Dynasty like that stands on more than 1 leg.

if belichick wants to be our defensive coordinator sure

as a head coach? and giving up those draft picks we just traded for?

Absolutely no interest. Even as defensive coordinator. I don't want somebody who already has a legacy but could use a few more extra million for retirement. We need to find talented people who have something to prove and years to build a successful franchise.

BB went to my high school, a fellow Fighting Panther, I am the biggest BB fan there is but I don’t want him in DC. He’s in his 70s. Time for him to retire to Martha’s Vineyard or wherever he has a house on the beach.

Harris needs to hire a young up and coming GM (get Kyle Smith back) and let that person build a front office and hire a coach. Be like Bisciotti in Baltimore. Hire hood people and let them do their job.
The amount of young coaching talent went through Washington that are now head coaches seems like there are some talent evaluation issues even when it comes to coaches.

Sheehan said today the 3rd from SF is a compensatory pick SF got for hiring a minority coach. So it’s at the end of the 3rd. Basically a 4th.

Derrick Henry is a generational talent. I love watching him run. Earl Campbell 2.0.

Ugh, just saw a clip of Cole Holcomb's injury
Tough to see. Guy can’t catch a break.

I remember the junkies speaking briefly at one point about the idea of bringing mcvay back to be HC. Imagine that...his ego would love the idea of being the "savior" of the team he made a name for himself with

if they somehow bring him back plan the parade.

rams seem pretty locked in with him though

Yeah. Believe it was instituted over the last couple years. DC got one for hiring that female assistant RB coach I believe.

Just read a little bit about this. Very interesting policy. They award compensatory picks to teams who have minority employees hired by other teams for GM or HC roles.

Not sure how I feel about the rule, to be honest. I fully support attempts to promote inclusive hiring practices, but I'm not sure this approach is effective. I get that it might have some marginal impact on hiring decisions that could at least offset some implicit biases. But it seems like you'd already have to have evaluated a candidate favorably and consider it likely that they would eventually be viable options for the most senior leadership positions. Unless you're an actual racist, wouldn't you already be all in on that hire?

All those young up and coming coaches came from the Shannys time here. Then Snyder and RG3 chased them out.

McVay, Lafleur, McDaniels.

O'Connell was Gruden.

Lots of Skins fans celebrated when they drove the Shannys out of town ...

This will impact any chance of something happening at the RFK site.

And impact stadium talks in VA.
