Meh. I don't think the bottom two lines matter as much as the top two.

We have more than enough evidence that Matty with Mitch, and JT with Willy aren't good pairings. Until we fix that, the bottom are more or less irrelevant.

This is actually one of the reasons I support moving Nylander out. I don't want to dump him but if we can get a PLD type of package back with a top 4 dman in the mix then I would be very good with that.

If the Nylander return or the cap space that comes with that can help us fill the two "xxxx" then we are a stronger team.

The F "xxxx" could be Robertson or Knies with someone taking Knies spot in the bottom six. It could also be someone we get back in a trade or sign as a UFA. Possibly even a Tarasenko on a one year show me.

The D could be someone like Oleksiak, Pesce, or Parayko (retained). All would come with a ++.

Moving Wily also gives us more space to resign one or both of Bertuzzi and Domi next year and sends a message that you take a hometown discount or get moved out.

Really hope Woll comes through here, Samsanov can hold it down as a 1B imo.

Really liking how this is coming together, a few more moves needed imo.

I’d be hesitant to run Woll as anything more than a ~30 game backup. He’s struggled with injuries. Ease him in, and then ramp up whichever guy is playing better for the playoffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Domi gets some chances up with the big boys as well.

Aside needing some beef in the defense, I like it.
I think Holmberg takes the next step and is an everyday 3rd line centre. Decent skills and 2 way play on the 3rd line. Excited to see Knies a full year. Not going to miss Holl, Kerfoot at all. Top two lines should be dynamic.

Forwards are fine for regular season hockey much like last year .. now need to make changes on D where it counts for post season success

Wouldn't be surprised to see Domi take that 3C spot. After a few years at wing he was back to mostly playing C in Chicago last season and it looks like it went well. Massively improved his faceoffs.

Robertson-Domi-Jarnkrok could be a feisty third line, if Robertson can stay healthy.

I agree in the long run. Who knows maybe even as early as this season. Bertuzzi is only a season removed from 30+ 32 = 62 in 68 games. if he strings some healthy games together playing with Marner and Matthews that number will surely rise.

If you keep Matthews/Marner together than you just need someone to play the Bunting role which Bertuzzi should do well.

If Tavares is not getting Marner, he should get Domi who is a playmaking winger, and a winger who can cycle with him (Jarnkrok)

Nylander doesn't need a top level C, just someone that does the defensive work and a winger that can get up and down the ice with him.
It is why we've seen Nylander excel with offensively challenged C like Kampf. Knies/Nylander should have many lines back on their toes. Holmberg just has to make sure he does the bare minimum.
