There’s no way you watch the Isles play because this is categorically false

They are literally 29th in expected goals bs against and I’ve watched many of their games and it matches the eye test
I know I'm just picking one game, but didn't they get the shit kicked out of them 7-0 by Pittsburgh the other night? It was fairly recently.

They probably should have lost last night's game in regulation quite easily, but Georgiev let in some howlers.

They've only allowed 4 fewer goals than us in 1 more game played, despite a wayyyy higher team save percentage than us. Not sure if that's counting the goals for shootout losses, which get counted as goals in the final score, but not as an actual goal against.

And we've allowed a ton of empty net goals. No way they've allowed as many of those as us. Them getting to OT so much would make that a fair assumption.

I just saw they're a 45.6% CF team at even strength while pulling these stats off hockey reference. They also have a -208 shot on goal differential lol. That 45.6% has gotta be worse than most teams, save for the handful of true bottom feeders. I think the Sharks may be sub-40% or at least they were for the longest time this year lol.

The Islanders this year truly are on par with the 14-15 Devils. Maybe even worse. And Sorokin is not really even having an elite year, though he's been solid.

I think the 4 playoff teams from the Metro should probably be the Rangers, Hurricanes us and maybe Pittsburgh. Maybe one of the others get in a wild card spot.

Us and Pittsburgh have underachieved. Rangers have overachieved, but not to the point where they should be below the playoff line. Obviously Carolina has underachieved a bit too.

Capitals and Islanders are pretenders and the Flyers masqueraded as something other than a pretender for a while there, but in the end I don't think they have enough and their play has dropped off to coincide with their recent skid.

The Islanders have also been way too healthy in goal for what’s now year 4. Varlamov has missed time in the last 4 years, but whenever he has they’ve played Sorokin all but once. And that was when they started Cory Schneider against us in April of 2022.

The fourth most recent goaltender the Islanders have played in a game for them is Thomas Greiss back in the 19-20 season. The fourth most recent goaltender we’ve played in a game for us is good ole’ Blackwood in game 82 of last season.

Varlamov allowed a goal last night and left the game. I’m assuming he left injured. They’re beyond due for that to run out. My guess is they’ll just play Sorokin as much as they can.

But the Islanders have used the same number of goalies in an actual game in the last 4 seasons as we’ve used this season alone.

Biz and pretty much the entire desk at TNT were very critical of the Capitals decision not to play Kuemper again on the second half of the back to back.

I’m more critical of the fact that they signed Kuemper, which was clearly a move to try and compete still. They really need to tank it away over there.

Watching the highlights, looks to me like Daws played a pretty solid game? Any thoughts?

Made quite a few HD saves imo. Sure, the first and second goals were shaky, but I think these can be easily corrected.

This game sure looked good for Dawson. Depending what standards you expect from him. I'm hoping this is just the warmup for him and he will surpass his own performance from last year.

I like how he doesn’t completely implode like Vitek has. Kid needs to have better starts but I also think he had a strong game

Probably time to end the Bastian experiment.
This type of player rarely stays in the same organization once they start nearing UFA age. He’s already 26.

I don’t think he’ll be here next year, even though he’s signed.

I heard somewhere that they waived Sheppard.

I’m sure he’s been on waivers already, probably multiple times due to his age.

But he was yet to play a game in the NHL the last time he was waived.

I’m pretty sure when he came up last time he was on emergency recall and it’s definitely probably the same this time with Lindgren hurt.

He did enough. Also deserves some rope considering how few starts he has this season at any level and the long layoff due to injury.

Playing with an empty net:
NJD scored 2 GF & allowed 10 GA
NYI scored 1 GF & allowed 6 GA
(2022-23 NJD scored 7 GF & allowed 11 GA)

Playing against an empty net:
NJD scored 5 GF & allowed 5 GA
NYI scored zero GF* & allowed 4 GA
(2022-23 NJD scored 18 GF & allowed 4 GA)
*only team w/ no goals when playing against an empty net.

I think they were asking about Nico Daws, but you are right that Merc Dawg had a really good game tonight.

Him, captain Nico, bad McLeod all had excellent games. Haula as well.
