GDT: New Jersey Devils vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

They look like a John Maclean coached team. Everything is back to the points and the shots get blocked. Never see a pass to the slot. It's easy to defend when u know it always happens

Yup I've been trying not to compare these last 2 months of garbage ass play to Maclean but its really looking similar. They cant really do anything right and every mistake ends up in the back of their net

I can deal with losing, I can deal with elongated slumps. What I can't deal with is players not giving a single **** about the result. Until Elias slammed his stick after the game was over, not a single player stepped up and did **** to ****ing get the team going.

We played a great game and got straight punked by the Leafs. They were getting away with so much nonsense, and not a single player stood up to them. We let them push us around. Not a single player questioned the referees awful calls, between the Franson slash, the Kadri crash, and the blatant missed boarding on Elias. Or when Clarkson tapped Kadri and he went flying.

You see no one on this team playing 120%. Most of them are playing hard, but not a single player has pushed it to the extra gear. That's something a captain needs to do, and Sal is a no show in that regard.

The problem with this team isn't goal scoring, defense, or goaltending. It's a ****ing lack of identity. No one knows who the **** this team is. Last year, we were a tenacious forechecking team that forced turnovers and thrived off it. This year, what the **** are we. I have no idea. We're certainly not a scoring team, our goaltending is ridiculously inconsistent, our coach picks the ****ing defensive pairings out of a hat, and our special teams is a complete abomination.

We straight up ****ing suck, and it's not because of talent. It's because no one appears to give a ****.

With the cap going down, maybe some teams will be forced to trade some of their big salaries for cheap ?

Which teams are in cap trouble, would be interesting to have a list.

I hope a lot of people with season tickets used their credit towards next years tickets and not the playoffs. If they didn't that will be a lot of money not being used for a very long time.

i've said it before, i'll say it again. we need kovalchuk back and he's only 2 or 3 games away(imo)
with kovy we're stacked. i'm not gonna come up with line combos because deboer will come up with the worst ones anyway, but all we need is kovy back. if we can be down by 4 points in the last week of the season we have the rangers twice. win both and we can be in.

Yup this is one of the softest Devils teams I've ever seen. We got outhit 48 to 18 tonight. I really wonder what Stevens thinks of this group

The forward group is not ugly. There's not really any superstars but it's not ugly. There's actually a lot of depth there. That's a big reason why you see them controlling the game and outshooting the opponents so frequently.

They are underachieving in terms of actual goal scoring. No doubt about that. Why that is the case is what is most up for debate.

It's a good group of forwards but they really can't create many good scoring chances. They have been out shooting teams all year but who cares when it's mostly all low percentage perimeter shots. They have no confidence or poise with the puck and just rush crappy bad angle shots. I can't tell you how many times they cycle the puck forever but no one ever releases to get a clean shot and then the play breaks down. They appear to be trying but it just seems lazy not trying to get to open ice or even the most basic thing like crashing the net.

I've seen some little things during this game that makes me think we just hit the point of no return tonight.

Turned the game off after the Leafs made it 2-0, couldn't bare to watch the rest.

Surprised to see they actually managed to score a goal after I turned it off. Nice job Clarkie.

I'm really ****ing pissed.

Lou did a horrific job setting this team up to win. I'm ****ing sick and tired of hearing "next year, next season, next next next next". NO. There is no "next". Arguably the greatest goaltender to ever play the game is 40 ****ing years old. You try and win for him NOW. They wasted another year of Marty's career, and I'm really ****ing angry about it. This forward group....they're just not good enough. I like the depth, but there are guys who have been absolute no-shows forever. Travis Zajac, I don't know what happened to him, but he has looked like a bottom six player all year. Alex Ponikarovsky has been a huge bust, I thought he would rekindle the same magic he had last season, boy was I wrong. He plays uninspired hockey, lazy, almost like he couldn't possibly care less. D'Agostini is another bottom six'er playing on one of the top lines, he just isn't good enough. I liked Steve Sullivan's game, but he is going to be used in a "go to" role and he, again, just isn't ****ing good enough.

The D played an outstanding game, and Marty stopped what he should have, but this team is allergic to goal scoring and the worst part is we all saw it coming. They lost a superstar when Zach Parise decided to "go home", and Petr Sykora, who had good chemistry with Elias and contributed 20 goals, was let go for virtually no reason which did nothing but make NJ's offensive woes even worse. What a waste, Marty's second to last season ever, and he's going to miss the playoffs. That's two of the last three years now.

They just aren't good enough.

I change my prediction, we miss the playoffs, not just slip out a few games.

Wish I could find the post where I predicted we would wish we sold off Zids and Clarkson for a bunch of picks come this weekend after we lost both games after the trade deadline.

Yeah it was a tough position. We knew where we were headed but its understandable why Lou didn't ship a couple guys out for picks considering we were still right in the middle of it.

Have to wonder what clarkson fetches if clowe nets that return..

Lou Lamoriello needs to put his ****ing working boots on in the offseason and bolster this team's offense. Its time.

It's dandy that they can still win like 6 of the last 10 and make it in but when I see that the team has 7 wins in 26, I don't have a ton of hope. Or any left really.

pretty obsolete at this point but i thought zubrus was very strong on the wall tonight. good to see him getting everything back. greene was stellar on the backend too.

I wonder where all the people are that said during the summer after we lost Parise, "We'll be fine. Henrique will offset some of Zach's offense. A full season of Zajac will help a lot. The 4th line is good for a lot of goals. Tedenby will finally break out."

LOL yea that all worked out real well. Lou needs to stop with the horse**** reclamation projects and actually sign players who can do something this time around. Lokti has been the only one that worked out.

Excellent post, I agree with it all.

Agreed. Say what you want about this year, and he deserves a pass. Next year though he gets no sympathy from me if he stands pat. In fact if he doesn't I'll know he's gone to Mars and never to return. Let Poni walk. He's been invisible, and we could actually replace him with Matteau. Try to dump Tallinder and Volchenkov. Let Zidlicky walk unless it's cheap. Let Clarkson walk if it's not for cheap. Bring back Zubrus, but not for too much. Bring back Patty too.

This season is over. The team isn't good enough when they can't score more than a goal against an average goalie like Reimer. Especially when the only goal was a bad softy. Give Marty a chance to win another Cup. I'm starting to worry about Marty. I'm afraid he'll revert back to 10-11 Marty. He was good at the beginning of Maclean usually keeping games close. Then the team started losing so much, he got injured, then he came back and played like there was nothing to play for. Then eventually it got so bad he said Hedberg should be the starter cause he had no confidence in himself. The man doesn't know much about losing, but this lineup I was worried would be a losing lineup. Lou gets no pass if it isn't addressed in the off season. His time is done in my opinion if he doesn't address it. Let the turds walk, buyout Volch, and ice a good team.

Its easy to say that now in retrospect but at the time those were very valid points. Everyone knew we wouldn't be as good because Parise is a huge loss, but there was still a lot to like about this team coming into this season. Anyone who denies that is lying through their teeth.
