GDT: New Jersey Devils vs. New York Islanders

Again, the one consolation to us losing out would be if one of the Rangers or Islanders tied us in points, only to miss anyway. Especially if they won 5 in a row to end the year, while we lost 5 in a row.

But the only team that could do that right now is Columbus. And I don't wish that on them this year, because of all that's happened.

Any other year I would take joy in that.

Its been beaten to death all of 2025. Devils are not where they need to be at roster wise. Only times they played well was in must win games like the Oilers, CBJ, Wild and Rangers games when they needed to keep their playoff buffer.

They clearly aren’t playing at the level since they clinched (by design IMO judging from the lack of intensity and comments by coaching staff).

This isn’t the 22-23 team. This is a team that has to play every shift 100% and keep their structure and have a heavy forecheck. We will see that again vs Canes. Whether they get swept, win a game or two, or actually compete is meaningless. But WE WILL see that level of intensity again like we did in those games I listed above.

It is what it is folks. We know the struggles this roster has had in 2025 and we know what their only recipe for success is. They obviously weren’t going to bring that level to close this stretch out with nothing on the line.

And who knows, maybe we get the losing out of the way first :naughty:

There’s playing sound defense and there’s playing too defensive. When we’ve struggled this year, it’s been on account of not scoring. I’d rather have seen us just go out and play pond hockey and score some goals these last few games instead of this.

That said, Keefe knows what he’s doing better than I do.

Horvat is the Isles best player. Pickpocketed Timo (out of the air) and boy that finish.

He’s the guy Vancouver took with our pick we sent them in the Corey trade. I think.

Stupid ass hit by Cotter on Pelech, I'm sure he'll apologize to him after the game face to face. Good on Keefe for calling it out, most coaches wouldn't even acknowledge. *cough* Lavi last year *cough*

No point in getting mad in these games, they're basically glorified preseason games + we know what this Devils team is for the majority of the year. Again, just get out of the third without being hurt and it's a win in itself.

If it stays like this, this will be far the most boring game attended to, this season. With the lock-in playoffs and isles nothing to play for, and playing zero event hockey, no real energy.

The polish day clubbing outside the main escalator on upper level has more energy than this game today so far.

All even after 1

Is it so bad that I don't even know what player that is on the AstraZeneca commercial?

Looks like Zacha a little bit, but I know that isn't him.

I'm guessing he may be a defenseman, due to some of his wording in that commercial.

There's a lot of players around the league that I don't recognize out of uniform.

If anything, the confidence in Markstrom has to be taking a hit.

Terrible clear by him, a couple of would-be bad goals that went off posts, after he came off his worst game of the season. Terrible play for the better part of the time since he returned.

No one is getting on a goalie after 1 goal against
You're right.

He did nothing wrong with a terrible clear on that PK.

He totally did not get beaten on long shots that went off the post and he wasn't terrible last game.

And he also doesn't have an .862% since returning.

And what exactly does doing well against the Bruins, Pens and Islanders tell us for a Canes series? Lmao
I mean fair enough, but not playing good certainly doesn’t tell us anything good lol. Look, I’d like the team to go into the playoffs looking good and playing with confidence, feeling good about themselves. That’s all.
