Highly likely Oilers cup win this year but we're not in it this year so it doesnt bother me that much.

Im too old to hold grudge and shit talk.
I'll be happy for my boi Tony and Pods.
The one solace from the Oilers winning would be that hockey media would praise them proportional to their success and quality shown by their best players. But if it were the Leafs, we'd never ever hear the end of it for years and years.

Yeah, don't forget that the Oilers might be getting Ekholm back, but the Stars are getting Heiskanen back.

The real problem is here that McDavid has likely seen enough to stay an Oiler for the rest of his career. They've made 3/4 conference finals. They're right there. A few more years of this and they're going to eventually win.

If LA knocks them out, he probably leaves. That stupid f***ing team had them dead to rights and decided to sniff glue instead.

Whatever happens,
WCF looks to be a very good series.

You cant say no to that if you call yourself a hockey fan.

I was sure the Stars would beat them last year but that was just out of anger from having just lost. In reality that team was too slow and not well equipped to deal with their speed.

This year I think it'll be more evenly matched. It's going 6 or 7. Hard to say who will win.

Miller is probably the best player in the league to matchup against McDrai. He consistently outplayed them head to head, even when combined on a line. US made a huge mistake matching Matthews vs McJesus in 4 Nations.

Even after watching them carve through the league again, he still goes underappreciated.

That trade signaled a forfeit of the season, next season, and if Hughes doesn't extend, then another 5+ more. There is just no realistic path forward.

It was more of a surrender, than a statue of a dude waiving a white flag outside the arena.

I think Marner gets too much hate.

Scores at a top 10 level in the regular season and averages just under a PPG in the playoffs.

This is with good defense to boot.

If we had the Pettersson cap space available, I'd absolutely take a run at him.
Yes but the core4 choked so many times that the blame no longer can be logical.

I wonder if McDavid would want to be the guy to bring a Cup back to Toronto. He'd be a literal legend in his home province. With Marner and Tavares gone, there's some cap space there if the Leafs are willing to wait for him.

The Kings and an injury-riddled Golden Knights team weren’t exactly tough opponents. Last year’s Canucks team was a much bigger challenge.

If the path goes through the Stars and the Panthers - that’s a serious test. Unless Ekholm returns and/or one of the goalies goes on a heater, it’s going to be a really tough road.

Stars are way too deep for the Oilers imo, this was their lineup vs the Jets yesterday:

Granlund/Hintz/Rantanen
Robertson/Johnson/Marchment
Benn/Duchene/Seguin
Back/Steel/Dadonov

Harley/Heiskanen
Lindell/Ceci
Bischel/Lyubushkin

Oettinger

They're basically rolling out 10 top 6 forwards in total with several superstars on top, one of the best top pairings in the league, a 2nd pairing that can easily hide the bottom one in crunch time, and one of the best goaltenders in the league who doesn't choke. Once you go past McDrai + Hyman the Oilers would be very very outmatched elsewhere.
I agree with you on paper, but teams pretty much just fold inexplicably against the Oilers. Hiller throwing an entire game/series, Stone and Pietrangelo aging 10 years, our offence imploding plus Cole/Juulsen disasterclasses...

The Stars team is similar to last year plus Granlund and Rantanen. Huge adds, but Heiskanen isn't 100% and last year's team crumpled like paper (not to mention how they entered and started the playoffs this year). I'm about as confident in them making it as when FLA was up 2 or 3 games last season.

Leafs blitzed 6-1 and now on the brink. Leafs Nation is fitting out the stocks for Mitch Marner and Austen Matthews in that order.

Obviously Matthews isn't going anywhere. But another playoff face-plant by Marner might be the final straw. Now thinking he'll be the biggest name UFA to move in the off-season.

Wouldn't be a shock if Vegas made a play for him--but where they'd find the cap room is a mystery.

2 goals in 11 playoff games for each of Matthews and Marne (for a combined 24 million).

Those numbers aren’t far off of EP40’s 1 in 13 games last season.

Matthew’s is the confounding one.
His size should make his game even that much more effective in the spring but he plays every game like it’s a February game against the Ducks and he spent the day laying on the beach before heading to the rink.
