This looks like any game vs Boston over the last decade.

They own us.
We shut them out twice in 2020-21, we actually have matched up well with them in the last few years.

The Caps own us, Bruins actually have trouble with our speed and are a soft team.

Blackwood playing himself into a full-time BACKUP role.
I was actually about to type up a long reply about how it should have already happened, because we went out and got Vanecek, signed him to a contract where he makes more f***in money than Blackwood and yet they still wanna keep forcing Blackwood as starter and not just let something else (Vanecek) happen.

And then I saw Vanecek randomly come into the game.

I'm not sure if I really like throwing him into the game in the middle of the game. I would say the same thing if it were the other way around. I don't know if I like throwing a goalie into the middle of the game like this in the last preseason game, but it's whatever.

I am a bit concerned by the utter and complete lack of structure. New players and new lines, as well as preseason, must be playing a role in that. But this sloppy, aimless play has been a hallmark of this team for years now.

That’s through him. Agree to disagree, he needs to stop that soft stuff.
It quite literally by every definition isn’t through him. Nothing soft about one of the best scorers in the game who also happens to have elite hands and be very deceptive being one on one with you at point blank range and putting it five-hole.

There’s a damn good reason why a scorer of Pastrnak’s caliber chose to do that. Because he knows how to score and knows that hard to save.

Bill Clement once called out Marty for allowing a goal early in game 7 of the 03 ECF. I think it was Magnus Arvidsson.

The goal looked a lot like the one he allowed to Eric Staal in another game 7.

Bill Clement said something like ''Marty Brodeur has gotta save that, it's a bad goal. He's square to the shooter, but it finds an opening near his blocker''.

Same thing here. He's square to the shooter. There's no screen at all or deflection. It is fairly close range, but still leaky.
Stopping a goal in the ECF vs the pre-season aren’t the “same thing”.

Elias would score goals like the Pasta goal. You’re baiting the goalie with your body/stick position and not loading up the shot on purpose.

That’s a goal scorers goal.

Agreed.

The point was that Clement's basis for a goal the goalie should have had was one that goes through the goalie where he's square to the shot. Which Blackwood was on that one. If that didn't go through him I wouldn't have nailed him on it, because it wasn't from a long distance or anything.

Chico would often use the ''If the puck goes through the goalie'' rule too. And would say that need to let it go around them and not through them.

I can't blame Blackwood for that and I don't really get how others are either to be honest. One of the best goal scorers in the league left alone in front for way too long. If Blackwood goes down to protect the five hole I guarantee you Pasta goes high, then it's about Blackwood going down early.

The only thing I'd say Blackwood could've done better was coming out a bit further to challenge him.

Because many posters have a plethora of nhl goaltending experience!
