If BOTH Loktionov and Josefson don't succeed next year then were in a lot of trouble as far as center depth goes. We'd have to shift guys (Elias, Carter) over which I'm not a fan of or Gionta reenters the fold *gulp.

I agree completely. IMO though we need at least one to do great this year. If BOTH do good then we're ahead of the game.

I'd love to see Carter at center next year. I'm also cautiously optimistic regarding Loktionov. I'd be ecstatic with a 15-25-40pt season from him to go along with decent play in our own end. Will be interesting to see who he plays with this season...

I'd like to see Carter at center on that line too, but I think there's a better chance Gio leaves the everyday lineup and Josefson gets the 4th line C spot. And I think Jacob would do very well there to be honest. I see him being better offensively on a 4th line than on the 3rd. He looked good with Carter and Bernier for a few games before he got injured late in 11-12. I remember a lot of us being pretty bummed after he got injured. I was too. We finally had a pretty good 4th line, and it went down prematurely, but Gio came and the rest is histroy.

Cautiously optimistic is how I feel about Lokti too. I by no means am projecting him to be this world beater or top center, but there's no denying his stock around here among posters has taken a significant dive since the departure of Kovalchuk. It's kinda sad cause I remember a lot of people being happy when he was re signed.

JJ(Josefson), I think will be in the lineup most of the time, even if he doesn't put a lot of points which I don't think he will because he will serve a 3rd or 4th line role will be kept because he's good postionally and can get the puck out of the defensive zone. Last year I think was bad for him but if he could return to 11-12 Josefson(or 10-11, or even the end of last season's form) he'll be fine.

Lines are going to be makeshift next year but I wouldn't mind going into opening day with...

Elias-Loktionov-Jagr
Clowe-Zajac-Ryder
Josefson/Olesz-Henrique-Zubrus
Olesz/Josefson-Carter-Bernier

Greene-Larsson
Merrill/Gelinas*-Fayne
Salvador-Zidlicky

Schneider
Brodeur

*=The rookie defenseman that makes the team

Volchekov
Harrold
Gionta

I will tell you right now, Volchenkov will sadly be playing instead of a rookie.

Yeah we're stuck with him for another year. Another annoyance of mine with Deboer is he seemed to put Fayne in his dog house last year. Though he did bench Volchenkov a few times. He did after that disaster down here against the Lightning. Rightfully so, he was not in the lineup the next night in Sunrise THANK GOD! Neither was Harrold. It was like blind leading the blind that game.

I don't think Fayne was in the doghouse, I think he was injured. He didn't play any worse than he did in the finals, and Deboer clearly trusted him then. Not to mention Larsson did not have his best year in the defensive zone, so it's not like there wasn't a spot for Fayne.

It's a possibility, but there was one point he seemed to be benched for almost 3 weeks. He may have made an appearance or two or three in that time though. Remember Fayne and Larsson were supposed to be scratches one night, but Tallinder got hurt in warm ups or before warm ups. So Larsson came back into the lineup.

I do believe he was injured in that controversial scratch late in the season against the Rangers, which turned out to not be so controversial. The one when Volchenkov came back into the lineup after he was eligible when his suspension ended. I think we found out Fayne was injured after that, and I don't think he played the last 3 games of the season after that either.

Fayne lost his grandma last year whom he was very close with. plus I think he was hurt.

That seemed to happen right before he was being scratched. IMO Fayne wasn't that bad though. After he came back into the lineup after the long scratch/injury or whatever, he looked a little shaky, but before all that I don't remember him looking bad at all.

I didn't think Tallinder looked that bad either before the first time he was scratched. It was just that somebody needed to sit cause we had 7 not including Harrold, instead of 6. Greene, Zidlicky, and Salvador were the only ones that never got healthy scratched last year. I would say Greene was the only one out of all of them that didn't deserve a benching at least once.

Yea, its pretty much a guarantee that Volchenkov will be in the opening night lineup unless Lou pulls a Tonya Harding and sends some goons after him.

I wish he would terminate his contract like Kovalchuk did. Go join his buddy over in SKA St Petersburg. Would be awesome if that waste decided to go play in the KHL too. It would be like hitting the lottery.

Would love to see Merril up here. That kid is ready.

I wonder if we have a D-Man who can make this pass in traffic.

I salivate over 7 assists in 12 games from the back. Even if it's in the AHL :(

Haha I just read TG's article from breakup day (Must have missed this the first time or didn't read the whole article) Barch said it was the hardest year of his career cause he was scratched for 18 games in a row. Hope he doesn't have one of those heart to hearts like Tallinder did with Deboer, or we'll be seeing him in a bunch of games:laugh:

I'd honestly rather have Janssen since neither will be playing. Barch is alright, but Janssen seems more like he'd be happy just coming along for the ride, and being alright with sitting.

That's one huge reason I love Janssen. He knows he won't play anywhere near 82 games and likely won't play in the playoffs, yet he never pisses and moans about not playing unlike Boulton, Peters, Barch, PL3, etc...

I think he would be happy just being with the NHL team sitting in the press box. Maybe he enjoys playing in the AHL nightly, but I think he would love to get to come up to the NHL and sit, even if he only plays 20 games or less a season.

I think we'll see Barch a little bit this season, but likely not every night, or even every other night. One of the first changes Deboer made last year when the team was struggling was to not play those guys. He didn't even put Barch in during that meaningless regular season finale against the Rangers.

Exactly how I view it. If both fail, we're ****ed. For the aforementioned reasons. If both succeed, we're rolling pretty well.

My gut tells me: Loktionov will be inconsistent but flashy, with above-average point totals when all is said and done; Josefson will have another year of steady defensive play and mediocre offensive play, but will be good enough to keep on the "maybe" list.

Exactly. Janssen's the man.

He can be in the minors for months, but, as soon as he gets called up, he brings the same intensity he would bring as if he were with the big club all year long. I've always loved seeing him warm up in-person... with his head bobbing, his huge bubble gum bubbles, his semi-stick raise when he would score during a quick drill

You really can't help but love the guy.

I hope Lokti and Jagr get PP time together. Both have the passing and finishing instincts that can make a difference.

I just wish it was at least September and we could at least watch a pre season game or something. Please MSG, air most of the pre season games please? That's one of the main reasons I got MSG down here, so I can watch pre season games, and see the pre/post game shows.

PP Unit 1:

Clowe - Henrique - Ryder
Zajac - Zidlicky

PP Unit 2:

Elias - Loktionov - Jagr
Larsson - Greene

Maybe have Larsson on the first pp with Zajac, Zidlicky on second.
