What does everybody think of this as a 3rd?

Oh yes because American and Canadian hockey owners, executives, and players don't follow the money.

I'm pretty sure they don't blatantly ignore international transfer rules or start leagues and poach players signed under an NHL contract to play in some local Canuck Hockey League, at least not in the last 40 years (although Jimmy Carter wasn't financing the WHA the way Putin is certain teams in the KHL).

While we're at it, on a semi-related note I wonder how the Olympics got to Sochi in the first place considering the average temperature in February is like 50 degrees Farenheit...

I like those jerseys, but I don't want to see them be our third. I'd rather keep the same scheme, no need to introduce another jersey.

No need to have a third. We have some of the best sweaters in the league. I like it how it is.

Agreed. I fear what would happen when I look at some other disgusting 3rds that have graced the league. I would think they would not be as horrible, but I'd rather not know.

I want to see green where the red is on those concepts. Curious mostly.

No as a third let alone multiple thirds. Maybe for the stadium game.

A solid black jersey - no stripes, no trim, nothing - with the standard logo would be a fine, simple 3rd.

From a NYT article in April 2000

On the ice, if not on the books, the Devils have towered over the Rangers in the standing in six of the last eight seasons, while producing the same number of Stanley Cup championships, one -- in 1995 for the Devils after the Rangers ended their 54-year famine in 1994.

''We should've won it in 1994, too,'' McMullen said. ''If we had won that seventh game in overtime with the Rangers in the conference final, we would have won the cup that year.''

Unlike the Rangers, the Devils, dollar for dollar, have been one of the N.H.L.'s most cost-efficient teams. With a $37.6 million payroll, the Devils are a bargain, especially when compared with the Rangers' wasteful $61.2 million payroll for a team that not only didn't make the playoffs but also performed in the last few weeks as if it didn't care if it did.

''I think our legacy,'' McMullen said, ''is the proliferation of junior hockey in New Jersey. I think more kids under 15 can name more Devils players than they can any other professional team in this area. Just look at all the Devils jerseys you see kids wearing. That's why I never wanted a third jersey. I want those kids to wear their older brother's Devils jersey.''

But in July, the Devils' era under McMullen will be over. ''I had to sell the team; I was in a dead end,'' he said. ''You have to have your own arena. I was willing to build one in Hoboken just for the Devils, but the state wouldn't let me.''

I'm one of those kids he was talking about that was under 15 at the time (as are many posters here) and it's funny because my brother got my jersey when it didn't fit anymore

I guess this is the first evidence of new ownership influence (aside from the Henrique signing). I usually sit in the balcony area so I am especially looking at those seats which I believe was around $59 last year. Interesting that now, they go as low as $38 but high as $82. I guess these guys understand supply and demand. Last year, I paid only $38 for a lot of games because of those discounts they would send out via e-mail. Why not open it up to everyone? This is a smart move, imo.

That map was made available in March and there were 2 changes from it between then and now, those being the upper corner sections being changed to the same colors as the sections next to them

Game 7 2009 was one of the worst moments of my life. Top 3 at least.

I got outrageously drunk that night, flipped a couch and a beer pong table, then woke up the next morning on a bench in my fraternity house's dining room with a puddle of my vomit next to me on the floor. Not a pleasant evening.

I'd rather give the spot to Gélinas or Merrill.

Agreed. I'd also rather keep Fayne than replacing his spot with Franson. But if there is a spot, I think it should go to one of the kids we have who deserve a chance.

Agreed. I like that Lou has never really allowed the cash grab of the third jerseys. The red and green sweaters are a nod to the past, and a fun tradition for St Patrik's Day. But no thirds, and no black sweaters either. I hated that trend a few years ago when it seemed like every team had a third jersey that was black.

Can someone help me out, I remember at some point last season, one of our guys was skating up for an easy empty netter, but passed the puck so someone else could get it. I cant remember who or when it was..... bit vague but someone might recall

I don't really remember, but it might have been Clarkson's two goal game against the Rangers? They kept passing the puck to him to try and get the hat trick, but he never was able to score it. It was in the first few weeks of the season during our 5 game winning streak. If that's the one you're talking about.

There was also that game in Pittsburgh just a couple games later. He had a two goal game, and might have been trying for the empty net then too.

Elias gifting one for Clarkson? I swear it was to get a hat trick too...

After looking he only had 2 - 2 goal games and Elias was on fire in this one.
Feb 5 vs Rangers?
