How did dude at 1:07 miss that???

How Nemec didn't end up with a point in this game is insane!

Once again, I see a great skater and a poised player making good decisions in the O and D zone.
I found myself very PISSED at whomever his teammate was that missed a GIFTWRAPPED goal there.

I think Nemec may need to up his tempo if he wants to be as hyper aggressive in the AHL and NHL.

On the other hand, the smaller rink encourages aggressive play when compared to the larger international rink so maybe everything cancels out and he only needs to make adjustments to his angles of attack.

Probably will still need a quicker first step; he needs that less on the larger ice so that may come pretty naturally now that he needs it more. We will see.
And this is why the Marino signing is so big.

It enables the Devils to not rush Nemec up and keep him in the AHL where he will learn how things work on the smaller rinks here.

I wouldn’t be very interested in extending him. And Bahl and Okhotiuk were both easily better than him at the end of last season IMO. I would bet that one of them is above him in the lineup before the deadline. How long would it take of them being better would it take for them to prove otherwise?

Ty wasn’t very good defensively even when he was putting up numbers as a rookie. Bahl and Okhotiuk are good defensively.
I mean, I think it's a bit of a case of apples and oranges too. Graves played the whole year top pairing with Hamilton against the best players. It was only half way thru the season when we recognized that Siegs was coming into his own and he started getting more shutdown time. While I think you're right that Bahl and Okhoutiuk both looked better at times, it's a little different playing out the string as a bottom pair guy as opposed to stepping into the ice against Crosby or McDavid first week in the season. I still think those guys are a complete effort during an 82 game season away from being THE guy on the left side

Ya that’s fair.
I don’t think they need to be the guy though. Just need to show that they’re solid and capable NHL defenders behind Siegenthaler. And then I’d be more than comfortable running Siegenthaler, Luke, Bahl, Okhotiuk and Smith

What debacle.... He's mispronouncing his own first name to make it easier for Americans supposedly, just like Chára has done for decades. :help: The correct pronunciation is SHE-monn NEH-mets.
You mean English speakers, it’s not exclusive to Americans unless you’ve never hear a Canadian/Australian/Kiwi attempt to pronounce a foreign name.

Was pissed when we drafted him over wright but now that time has passed it was a great pick that sets up our blue line for years to come and the kid is gonna be a stud.

I think nemec is probably one of the few bust proof players in this draft. He’s a smart player, cool, calm and collective with the puck and has done well at every level he has played and is a great skater. Usually those guys continue to carry that stuff over into the next level of competition

He’ll be an NHL player in some capacity. He might not turn into a superstar, but it’s hard for me to see him not being in the league

Pre-draft I was super, super, super high on Nemec. Still am.

But I think this is kind of the wrong read on him. His upside is, no question, a high-end offensive defenseman. But I don't think he's bust-proof. He's a bit of a riverboat gambler - he always activates to create chances. But that creates a lot of rushes against. And Nemec himself is a very poor transition defender. He's prone to the occasional bonehead turnover/gaffe.

If he hits, I think you have a Morgan Rielly. But he'll need to improve his spot-picking and transition defense. Otherwise, North American coaches might not trust him enough to play him.

Which the Devils absolutely should be uninterested in. Graves is dust. Just a mediocre player.

Let him walk next offseason and replace with Hughes.
Or if we totally suck again, you deal Graves for anything and replace with Hughes once the college season ends and we see Hughes for his 9 games.

Oh so now Graves is the problem when we finally got rid off Smith. There's always someone that needs to be dumped and the grass is always greener at the other side. Graves was more than fine the first part of the season, if he plays like that he's easily worth his cap hit. If he asks for a ridiculous extension, then you just let him walk.

I've never liked Graves, and I've said that since before he put on a Devils sweater. It's good Luke will be in the fold before the end of next season, and we'll be able to jettison the guy.

Siegs - Hamilton
Luke - Marino
X - Nemec

That's a nice long-term defense core. As Hamilton ages, the Devils can increase Nemec's minutes and reduce Hamilton's.

Because he's not particularly good, he could fetch an asset (and create cap space) back in a trade, and I think his quality of play is somewhat easily replaceable. And the Devils' long-term top-four LHD will arrive before the end of the season.

Now I know this is a Nemec thread, so I'll leave it at that.

You don't know if Luke is ready next year, maybe it takes him a year or two to adapt..

I definitely think Graves is better than Smith, Okhotyuk, Bahl at this point. Shouldn't you want to ice the best possible team, does it matter if he doesn't fit our long term plans.
