In his very limited minutes I thought Smith played well last night. Honestly though if you're going to play one Dman 13 minutes a night, they should just bring in Nemec.

PK becomes though...but I don't see how that problem ever goes away unless you are going to use one of Luke or Dougie as the 4th PKer. Or Nemec as the 4th PKer and that doesn't sound like great idea at this stage of his career

I think that's the eventual plan considering he got PK reps in the preseason and got regular PK time in the AHL last year. But ya he's probably too raw to step into the PK at the NHL level right now

Look at the minutes from last night

Marino 22:25
Siegenthaler 21:18
Hamilton 20:10
Bahl 18:46
Hughes 17:35
Smith 13:35

Shorthanded

Siegenthaler 2:31
Marino 2:11
Smith 1:29
Bahl 0:57
No other Dman PKed last night.

Bahl has to take Smith's minutes if Smith comes out...not really that big of a deal, but it would push Bahl to closer to 20 minutes a night which I think is a lot to ask for from him...but even beyond that who would replace Bahl's minutes if Smith comes out?

I really enjoyed typing "Bahl's"

Problems of good but young teams. I still think it would be not a bad idea to use Smith as 12th forward for a couple of games and watch how Nemec is playing in different situations. Not so fun alternative for Bastian\Lazar\Nosek. But if we are happy with what we have from Nemec on the ice and and he acclimatizes to new and more complex tasks, including shifts in pk - you can send Smith to support partners in the locker room with a calm soul. Mcleod, Nosek and Lazar barely played 9 min 5vs5. I dont think Devils will be much worser team on the ice with Smith on the wing for 5-8 min instead one of BLN.

That's definitely a solution. Seems likely also. We've run with 7 Dmen plenty of times before.

Hope he’s alright. He returned to the game after the hit but then was taken out as a precaution. Hopefully that means it’s not too serious
That was a DIRTY PLAY by that Syracuse defender :

He knew where that divider was and forced Nemec's head into it.

He should be suspended for that sh*t.

Not really sure how anyone can watch the instant replay they showed and come away thinking "oh...that wasn't intentional. Tee Hee! Nothing to see here, folks. Let's move on".

Give me a break.

That Syracuse clown should be suspended, heavily fined, or have HIS head shoved into that divider (see how HE likes it). :madfire:

And the refs didn't even call a 2 minute minor on the play nor did any of the Comets really come to Nemec's defense...other than Hatakka with a little shove behind the net but that is not his game. There is no one on the roster that looks to play that role for the Comets.

No one to play that role on the big club either.
