Certainly, defensemen that can produce offense have more value...but if you consider Fowler to be a "slightly better" defenseman than Larsson you are severly underestimating the impact of their contract. Larsson has 5 years remaining on his contract at a good cap hit. Fowler could leave in 2 years for nothing or if he stays, he's certainly taking up significantly more cap space than Larsson in years 3-5 since as you said, those that can produce offense have more value on the open market.

Yeah, no ****. That's why I included "which many in this thread have suggested it would take" immediately after mentioning Zacha.

To the first part of your response:

I agree contracts play a role but I'm factoring that in. Reality is Fowler is a slightly better player than Larsson and will be a better two-way player for his team given his ability to create offense. Were he to be traded today, given Anaheim's needs they'd get a Hall type return from any team who was in need of a puck moving top 4 D such as Fowler. Whether you want to say said return is better or worse than Hall is completely subjective but it would be similar. If you'd like to get nit-picky with whose more valuable you can do that on your own.

To the second response: cool your jets, big guy.

Bieksa will waive his NMC or be bought out. He should have no fear at all of Las Vegas drafting him from us.

It's probably between Manson and Vatanen. I like Manson a lot... I like Vatanen a lot too. It's going to suck either way. Maybe we expose Vatanen and pray Montour replaces him sufficiently. Whoever is drafted, I'm gladly buying their Las Vegas jersey.

That's why it seems a deal needs to be made before the expansion draft...though I would consider Anaheim to be a "win now" team, so I don't see why they wouldn't wait until just before the expansion draft to make a trade and make another run this season with the current team.

What's the Ducks situation as it relates to defensemen and the expansion draft?

Isn't that what's driving a lot of these Fowler trade proposals?

ducks will either have to trade 1 of manson/vats/lindholm/fowler or pay off vegas to not pick 1 of them (manson)

The teams are just poor trading partners; I don't see what Anaheim could possibly want outside of Zacha and Jersey is simply not going to let him go for anything other than distilled insanity.

Also, please don't trade Fowler. He's a big reason why I'm rocking my fantasy leagues right now. ;)

I counter with Stoner + 2nd for Zacha, Stoner is a seasoned veteran and a physical presence.... cmon do it.

Well, alright, but you remember that we made this sacrifice for you.
