GDT: New Japan Thread - Life Post-Okada

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Forget who it was but someone cut a promo on him a year or two ago and said "You enter like Moxley, look like Tanahashi and talk like Naito" and it was so true to the point of almost burial. Reminded me of the Adam Cole promo on Killer Kross in NXT.

They clearly want him to be the next top guy there but it hasn't landed yet. Okada, White and Ospreay all leaving at basically the same time kinda had them rushing his push too.

Naoto went through the same thing. The company was in a position where someone had to get inserted just in case it worked, or see how they can react to make it work. The reaction to El Phantasmo suggests he should get a chance right now.

I really enjoyed Shota/Zack personally. I thought it was a real good show overall although the Douki injury was a massive bummer.

Takeshita/Shingo was really good. AZM/Mayu was probably the best sub-10 minute match I've seen in quite sometime, if not ever. Finlay/Tsuji was excellent.

Good experience with BuySumoTickets. Retrieved my ticket at 7/11, which are ubiquitous here. No hassle.

My American mind is blown at the lack of a metal detector/wand. Just walked right on in.

Awesome stage/lighting.

I had a similar experience at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in Lowell. They had a couple people scanning for tickets but no metal detector/wand/pat down at all. Even the people who were scanning tickets were just kinda roaming around nonchalantly. I feel like if someone was determined to sneak in, they could.

Umino’s entrance was like Biker Taker crossed with Liberace.

Two guys in front of me were not YB fans.

I can’t get over how good the entrances look and sound.

Omega - Kidd is getting 5 stars for sure. Crowd ate that up. “Gabay!”

Great match no doubt, super happy about Omega being back. But I'm sure before the years over we'll see better matches than that.
 
having that kind of performance coming back from that long of a layoff and that bad of a health situation is quite special
 
Kenny brought Tana to tears! Star making performance for Gabe....I feel like the only thing missing is his look. That still doesn't do it for me.

Athena took her first loss in 2 years being pinned in the international women’s cup 4-way after Thekla ran interference allowing Momo Watanabe to hit her with a baseball bat. Momo gets to challenge for any belt she wants in any of Stardom/CMLL/AEW/NJPW, but they set up Thekla/Athena for the ROH title at Korakuen Hall. They ran a run in after teaming together the other night in Stardom

Once you're in Japan, using the ticket system at Lawson works well. Just need Google Translate on your phone to help you out unless you understand Japanese.

Just rewatched it and man….idk…you might be right after all. Let’s just call it a leading early candidate. Looks like another classic that’s just gonna keep getting better and better every time you watch it.

It reminded me in some ways of Bret-Austin in that it turned a megaheel into a top level babyface and made the guy in one night.
