I think no matter what they change it to, people will chant YOU SUCK to stick it to management. They only get their way if fans choose to comply. It would be very easy to chant "you suck" with this song. Not so easy with some others (like the awful Bon Jovi b-side they used).

Any goal song with chanting potential that actually gets the crowd involved has potential for "you suck" to be thrown in. Its a risk they're going to have to take if they want a goal song that actually uses the crowd, which is the best type of song.

You can't just have a song playing as your goal song, what are fans supposed to do? Sit on their hands? It creates an amazing atmosphere when you have 17 thousand people chanting the same thing after the Devils score. If they're going to get rid of that just because of the POTENTIAL for some to chant "you suck" afterwards, then they're ****ing idiots

That user-submitted Devils Song is pretty good. If they took out a little bit of the guitar riffs in the middle and put the next hey! chant closer together it would be great.

You can chant "you suck" to anything. Even if there is no "chant" per se in the song, the fans will chant "you suck" once they pick up the beat. It's just a matter of time.

Well while that is true, there are certainly songs that are more accommodating to such a chant. And if the chant does not get traction right away it might not stick.

But this will only encourage those fans that are intent on chanting "suck", to start the "rangers suck" chant more often. And combined with the "flyers swallow" bit, that is the way more offensive chant anyway(and annoying when overdone which it always is).

Fans are going to chant "You Suck" no matter what type of song is used.

And if they're gonna go and actually eject people from the building because they did the chant, then Josh is going to have a revolt on his hands basically with EVERY fan then doing the chant and daring him and management go through with this "enforcement".

Josh needs to understand that Devils STH's pay a LOT of money to come to games and have the right to boo, cheer, or chant whatever they like. If he doesn't understand or remains stubborn, then there might actually be empty seats in the arena again....good luck finding a "family" that is willing to pay thousands of dollars to go to a Devils game then.

This has been my argument throughout regarding why the goal song needs to remain "Rock and Roll Pt II". All the new executive staff, primarily the president Hugh Weber, is doing is creating a revolt. Their "cure" is going to be worse than the disease.

There's two possible outcomes: 1. The core demographic (rambunctious and loud 15-35 year olds) continues to rebel and eventually wins in getting our song back.

2. We see lots of empty seats just like in the CAA days because families are not the primary fans of this team. Not anymore.

Dude, don't scare us like that.

I think the vote isn't real anyway.

I expect the next 3 songs were already picked:

"Ole" by Bouncing Souls
"Zombie Nation" by Kernkraft 400
"Seven Nation Army" by White Stripes

And all will fail.

Should they try the "Seven Nation Army" chant they used at Fanfest on opening night of "Oh-oh-oh-oh We are jersey!"---they will be quite upset at what chants will come from that.

Good in theory, but if the song does not accommodate it, I think it would be hard for fans to get in unison on the chant, and the song itself can easily drown out any broken up chants there are.

Is throwing people out really part of the plan? Absolutely a bad idea if true. Especially since more then half the people in what is typically a non filled arena are in on the chant. That would be a disaster and think ownership is aware of that.

I think you're underestimating the anger of a lot (yes I know---not all) of hardcore fans who will be heavily inebriated come Saturday night. That anger can definitely translate into chants that Mr. Harris and Mr. Weber will dislike.

Well, like I said earlier. Even if there is not a good "suck" chant for the goal song, there will be plenty of "rangers suck" chants, which combined with "Flyers swallow" is way more offensive anyway. So it's a tough nut to crack, even if they do get it out of the goal song.

Freedom of speech, right?

It's not like the fans are working for an employer. They paid good money to go to a game so in essence, the Devils are working FOR THEM.

Or am I incorrect in this viewpoint?

And devilsblood, I'm talking about chanting "You Suck" over the Devils song just because they CAN and WILL in order to spite management.

I was literally just told by a Devils rep "off the record" that I have a better chance of seeing Bin Laden resurrect than seeing RRP2 come back

Then they proceeded to tell me that they 100% think its "****ed up" that they're doing this, but the ownership themselves are very dead set on it. The reps at the meetings kept saying how it was a bad idea to change it and that they fear the crowds reaction at every home game.

Business tactics and ethics aside, they miss Vanderbeek.

Private enterprise, thus protection of freedom of speech is not in play.

And a chant will work so much better when the song accommodates it. Can fans chant it regardless? Sure, but does it work when it's not in unison, or when drowned out by music. Previous song had lulls which so prefectly allowed for the chant. Next song may not.

Freedom of speech applies in your home, in public so long as it doesn't infringe the rights of others or break the law in how you do it.

You are not in public at the arena - that is private property with policies governing the behavior of the fans - which you agreed to when you purchased that ticket saying so on the back.

They have the right to remove you for whatever they want - and this may include expressing your 'freedom' of speech.

Try yelling fire in a movie theater and exercising that freedom if you want to take it to another level.
