Blue Jays Discussion: New Contract offer to Vladdy? Berrios opening Day pitcher

Not to mention prioritizing other organizations ‘fungible arms’ over their own, for some reason.
I'm torn on this one. I love seeing guys come up through the system and succeed, but if they feel like a guy isn't developing the way they had hoped, isn't moving on the right move?

If these fungible arms kept catching on and succeeding elsewhere, I would be more concerned.

Bryan Baker is one who was in this series.

Maybe I’m sensitive about that, probably hasn’t hurt that much, but I always feel like you spend all that time developing guys, give ‘em a crack. I personally think it’s good for a system when guys get their chances.

I really want Bo extended asap. Maybe even more than Vladdy. He is such a great player. I love that type of player. Quiet, business like, just goes out there and hits. Plus his D has really improved. Get it done, Marky and Atkins.
I don't see it happening, especially if he does have a good year, I bet he wants out of Canada. I don't think it matters that much to Vladdy, since he isn't American. He'll go with whoever pays him most.

Letting Baker go was a mistake, but I assumed we were talking about guys drafted (or IFAs initially signed) and developed by the Jays. Baker spent three years in Colorado's system before the Jays acquired him.

I thought we were too, didn’t realize he started with COL….but pretty close spending a bunch of good years developing here.
Your memory is better than mine.

Jesus, man... he's on the 15-Day IL and people are acting like he just had his right arm amputated.

Some of the reactions are a bit over-the-top but when a 40 year old pitcher is dealing with a recurrence of the same injury that kept him out for almost all of last season it doesn't seem overly likely that this is going to clear up on this short IL stint and he'll proceed to make 30 starts this season.

Yeah, I mean... I'm not confident he'll be healthy the rest of the way either, but I think there are a lot of very reasonable reactions before you get to "management is incompetent because of this" and "he's done".

True, but at the same time this is a continuation of an issue he's had going back to 2021. Dead arm, nerve issues which compounds into shoulder/lat/etc.

The Jays were well aware of the risks given they were counting on Scherzer to be a key part of the rotation. It's why I wasn't a big fan of the signing and said he was "washed" in the sense his body can't handle the grind anymore. Can't imagine it's great for him either given he can absolutely still pitch, but the body just doesn't allow him.

Im still betting we find out Scherzer has thoracic outlet syndrome at some point.

Also not trying to be that guy, but they clearly started Scherzer in that series to get some hype. We signed him to be the #5 guy. it isn't some life or death thing

He also was never a good 3rd baseman. The Red Sox are absolutely correct to move him off there. Doesn't seem like they found a way to make it work without strife, though.
His stance changing is apparently the biggest factor.

I'm not sure if their hitting coach isn't paying attention but this seems like an easy fix.
